It’s only missing Garcia’s vocals for the first two songs but you can still hear him play. If you don’t have the patience to wait through the first 13 minutes out of a three hour show to hear him sing, just go here 13:10.

The energy was smoking at this one. Often when the Dead played a college campus, they’d get that extra bolt of lightning and it would show up in their performances. Although, I do think they got that extra bolt of energy from other sources as well on this night. 👃

Oh so long since I have seen Donna. We loved her so. We all felt like we could sing for the band too. We had long hair down below our waists and fingers were slender and our waists we know they were small. But it would not make us tremble to see 10,000 fall. Not with Jerry by our side.

Some Other Dude I know, it's a shame all the Phish-heads didn't get a crack at listening to the Dead first. After 200+ Dead shows, I saw my first Phish show. I was open-minded and eager to compare the two bands. Phish was fine and enjoyable but, my God, the level of complexity and sophistication between the two groups is vast. Phish simply never caught up.

That solo in Bertha is Just Exactly Perfect. Not a single note out of place. Jerry smiling all along and showing a perfect example of what he meant when he would talk about those certain ideal moments in time when he wasn't even aware and the music was simply playing him. He just happened to be the vehicle that was transmitting it for all of us to appreciate. Like when Michael Jordan could not miss. 1:12:59 - 1:14:56. Almost 2 minutes of pure bliss.

I like the tones of the Dead's instruments, it's soothing to the ears. They also play sophisticated songs without using the typical three and four chords that most other bands use. It’s such a minor, simple thing but 1:33:05, Jerry and Bob and a few seconds later Phil are working out the rest of the 2nd set setlist; which is so great. They would have a rough idea but everything was up in the air when they hit the stage. At that point, clearly they working out the big jamming songs of the night as the rest of the show was continuous one song into another without a break. Clearly a band working on the fly and without a net and open to whatever direction the music would take them. Which is one of the reasons they developed such a dedicated, fervent fan base. There was no other band that did it this way.

I have made over a dozen comments here about this show and want to make one final note to the poster and editor, thanks a bunch. not only does Jerry show more childlike glee playing these songs like he just started jamming them last year, but he plays with the boys during drums. What a treat. thanks a bunch! I am truly grateful for your contribution.

Excellent! Really liked this even though it had some sound issues. I'm mean, hell it's 1978. Wow! Loved the whole U.S. Blues jam and all of it. Wow!
