My one and only time seeing Jerry …man that jam out of scarlet through the end of fire on the mountain never gets old!! My 14 year old self was so lucky to have been there! Big ups for posting this without commericals, it is appreciated and most def noticed each time I relive this moment in time

Nothing like an epic 2nd set run of Scarlet-Fire, PITB, Dark Star, Terrapin, Drums/Space........and what do they decide to come out of space into......none other than Easy Answers! I guess if they decided to go Drums, space, Other One, Morning Dew some in the audience would’ve keeled over so they had no choice but to go w/ the always deflating Cheesy Answers.

Garcia's guitar from the first note of the Stagger to the very last note of the Let it Grow sounds really great. That sounds like he's playing Spanish acoustic to a stage mic. That's really great. Gorgeous first set.

I'm guessing that's a Roland GS acoustic guitar synth patch played through one of his Cripes? Beautiful, crystal clear acoustic pop on the higher strings whatever the case. Sadly, I was losing the faith by this point and only signed up for one night and twernt this one, which sounds like one of the better post Brent shows I've ever heard! Would never ever consider missing a complete Spectrum run in my hometown during Brent era. Saw them at quite a few places, but the Spectrum really brought out the wonderful weirdness, wildness and blissfulness like no other place IMO! Band and audience synched up and ready to ROCK! Listening to this makes me think "WTF else better did I have to do!!?"
@Twotontessie
@Twotontessie Ай бұрын
@@seangrexa4707 someone who knows guitars could explain it much better, but the way I understand it that Bolt guitar he started using in August 1993 had a piezo pick-up which in essence just amplifies the sound of the strings and the resonance of the guitar but doesn’t color the sound in any other way like the other standard pick-ups like humbuckers and so forth. So it was kind of complete opposite direction of what he had with the Rosebud. I think in short order they hooked up the MIDI in it and all that.

So many special, "new" ways of doing things in the second. All the transitions are amazing. This second is absolutely has to be called a monster set for the elaborate jams( sound a lot like mid late 70's at points with brother on the keys like that) and s-f, dark, terrapin... That's a lot of information. Any other band played something like this you'd call it their epic performance Jerry went around more times then have ever heard him in the Scarlet solo and some very facinating things in the Terrapin including the way out. So many fire light references between the scarlet fire dark star and terrapin. And to mention it's a fabulous double entandre or almost pun "we pay the teller off in gold". It just hit me pretty good tonight how fabulous that line is. Hunter must have been pleased with that. Beautiful.

Hunter is fucking amazing. I could write a thesis statement on Days. I understand it. I know what he is pointing at. It's super advanced requiring knowledge of Buddhist theory of Dharmakaya (phantom ships) Sambogakaya (phantom sails) Nirmanakaya ( phantom tides)- which is all found within the syllables OM AH HUNG and body, speech, and mind. "The blue of yet another day" can maybe only be understood by people who have overdosed on great LSD (Hunter) or people who have gone through the drag process and returned to life (me). When oxygen ceases at death the blue (oxygen particles) begins to escape from the periphery of view- because one is no longer drawing oxygen and therefore the space doesn't register as blue anymore. It appears as pure light- a milky antique white light with subtle swirling pastel rainbows. Anyway, it's correct absolutely to play a Days after Easy Answers. easy Days is interesting because Days truly encompasses the story of scarlet fire- dark star- terrapin in a shortened, pithy format. It's a love song. Where one is in heaven (land of lullabies) and the other incarnate- that's the discussion on "grew into our shoes and told them where to go, walked half way round the world on the promise of the glow" which really requires spooky string theory to discuss. The "poloshebslike a golden bowl, the finest ever seen" you will all see one happy, and easy (easy answers) day in the far future. It has to do with how consciousness is transferred to heaven. There is a holy grail. You will see it. It is a bowl, a huge bowl, an unbelievable beautiful baptism. And don't worry- it's impossible for love to forsake the days that lie between. Be happy. Know you are loved. No matter what you think or your views on things, I promise you are loved beyond measure and someone is both with you always and waiting for you to come home. Give the best you have to give/ give everything you are- love all beings. Benefit them. Abide in peace and love. It's a heavy song. Maybe the heaviest.

I fought the law- see? "I left my baby" this song is about karma. He was incarnate. He came to do a great mission. The muse was in heaven. Obviously. How could she not be listening to this. It is heaven. I hope everybody understands how much Jerry gave to be here and play for all of us. He was a living Saint.
@veek.6463

To understand that bowl reference also check out Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band "turtledove". I named my Kangal dog after that song. "When I get to heaven I know the rules: head on down to the bathing pool" "Adam and Eve whoa-oh! Adam and Eve don't tell it to me! You meet me at the door and don't tell it to me!......." Hmpf-Kids- smh. PS I love you Jerry. Thanks, awesome show.
@veek.6463

Also "land of lullabies" can be understood by listening to Crazy Fingers- "while lady lullaby songs plainly for you, love still reigns true". Remember that- love always reigns true. "Midnight on a carousel ride reaching for the gold ring down inside. Never could reach it, just slips away but I try" is also reference all found inside the Days. That's the attempt to come to this world incarnate and make it a perfect world. Again, it's a Buddhist reference to Samsara or the wheel of life that beings go round and round on when they incarnate over and over looking for love or driven by karma (I fought the law and the law won) The way out is to realize you are divine and have everything you need and already have that which you are looking for which is love. Love is already yours. I promise. We all have a muse or a God who is our partner watching over us while we dream this dream that is life. But don't worry! You have seen and heard the grateful dead. It is a liberstion upon hearing and seeing. You're good. You don't have to go round no more. You are liberated by this and you know the leader of the dead. So use this life wisely to fully be in peace and love and realize this time you can take with you what you want to. It will be there waiting for you in the land of the Dead exactly as you want it. So waste no time. Be good family. Love one another. And realize how special you are, how loved you are. He came here to show you the path home (uncle Johns band). Enjoy your life and play Dead.

"Blue of yet another day" is also referenced in Hunter's eulogy to Garcia "what choice have I but to dare to call your muse who thought to rest out of the thin blue air"------ Days is a love song. Garcia is a master twin flame. He literally left heaven to come here to set beings free. He is Buddha- he is all 3 types of Buddha who are hoped for to come and teach in this world 1) Buddha who liberated via word 2) Buddha who liberated via art and music 3) Buddha who liberated through access to created sacred space. He did all 3. Great spiritual leaders, yogis, Gnostics, Mystics and the highest orders of living Saints, mahatmas, bodhisattvas. And the pinnacle true leaders of pure religion on this planet all know how profound Garcia was. He was exceptional. He did serious work without asking anything of anybody. With no demands of discipline. With not even advice given. He just showed us. Just invited us to come and partake and experience. He didn't lord over us and tell us how to do it. He gave us the sacred space to experience our divinity at shows. He let us feel how powerful we really are. Unbelievable- almost. If I hadn't been there I would say unbelievable. I hope somebody read all this. I could go on forever about how pure Garcia is and how fucking insanely wise Hunter is

When brent passed away that was the start of the downfall of the dead when weir slipped easy answers in the middle of music never stopped the end got closer with a playin>darkstar>terrapin at about 20 minutes long i knew the grateful dead would cease to exist very soon and sure enough it did

They were still good up to Sept 91 - that east coast tour was the last hurrah. Bill Graham dying + Jerry blew off his girlfriend @ the time who was keeping him sober/ straight up to that time, Jerry chose drugs once more (see recent Netflix documentary, she is extensively interviewed about that time, she was the one who got him into scuba diving in Hawaii & tried to steer him towards healthy eating/ exercise/ sobriety).
