So, we trucked from NYC here without tickets. Bought them from a scalper and lo and behold they were counterfeit. Husband got to talk to the promoter who took us in, through the backstage area..asked us if we wanted to meet the Dead and I was too shy(kicking myself ever since) so he deposited us into the front row ..where there were no seats..GA by the stage. Then I went out to get a drink and the guards asked for my ticket..oops forgot this would be an issue, they wouldn't let me back in. I had to describe the promoter down to his shoes..then they let me back in..I sat in the second row..They were all growers from the area..and said they were personally sent tickets - invited by the band.

We were right down front for this one....general admission on the floor...packed. Hey pockey way was smoking. One of the best Dews I ever heard and the brokedown is so pretty. Thanks for posting this..lived right down the street from the coliseum at the time and there was much excitement in the air....the dead are playing within walking distance?...holy shit! I've been from east coast to west coast to see my favorite band but there's something special about them coming to play your home town. Especially when they kick ass. Greensboro was a cool place to see them. Unfortunaly a bunch of folks got busted for dope. Couple of my buddies got screwed with counterfeit tickets which sucked. The night before was very good too. Seeing my buddy dancing his ass off at his first show the first night during China rider was great. Ok now he's hooked...lol. We got a fish on the line... Great memories. Wouldn't trade my dead show experiences for anything...beautiful and funny times...all manner of crazy and high times.

Ha, I was probably right next to you. I was I front of Jerry and some folks next to us offered Brent a giant bud to play Hey Pocky Way. He waved off the bud but played the song for us anyway!

My last spring tour before moving west. Was fun having our whole tour family going to North Carolina for a change of scenery. But it was a bummer that no Hampton was on the plate. First Standing on the Moon. I remember it like it was yesterday. My daughter was 3 months old, now she’s 32, and life keeps rolling on. Thanks for the post! 👏🏻

Caught the first two shows of the tour in Atlanta, and then headed up to North Carolina for these shows. FIrst night was a lot of fun and echo a lot of comments about how open it was - stood about 15 feet in front of Jerry for the first set, and found comfortable seats in the first level Phil side for the second. Great fun and memories. However, this night was my favorite of the run. My girlfriend (now wife of 27 years) drove from Charlottesville to meet us for her first show. She was drawn to the Jerry ballads which he played in spades that night - each one a high-light (though Standing on the Moon was a repeat from Atlanta). She also danced her way through drums and said “why didn’t you tell me about his part?!?”.

Thank you for this! I had never heard this show. I've never been a fan of Sugaree in the #2 slot, but it's such a good song. I'm surprised by SOTM as a set closer; can't wait to hear it. I'm a huge fan of Hey Pocky Way. I have no intention of denigrating any of the keyboard players when I say that I just am so grateful for what Brent brought to the band.

My first Dead show. Never the biggest fan but had to go see what it was all about. Glad I did. Scores of shows at the Coliseum over the years and I never had to park where I did this night--Kernersville, I think😃😃😃. Parking lot full of folks not going in, extra security station out front (I heard about lots of counterfeit tix) --once inside --had to step over hundreds of people just sitting/laying in the concourse--smelled like a 7th grade locker room. Never seen anything like it--It was awesome. Fire code be damned! Every light blowing on at "Inspiration" during Terrapin was one of my greatest concert moments. Got a couple egg rolls (from a frying pan in parking lot) and a couple Heinekens from a 55 gallon drum after the show. I think they were all a buck apiece-no more than 2. Just a ridiculous concert experience. Thanks for posting.

I was there. Great shows, fun lot both nights. Next set of shows were the Pittsburgh riots. Atlanta and Greensboro were good time mellow then the tour moved to within driving distance of the Northeast. Then the poo hit the fan with hoards of ticketless fans.

I don't know there was video of this 80s dead starting with Rochester ballpark..not silver stadium..the one they tore down in late 80vthis concert was in summer of 80 the old old..hot as hell..GOOD RATS ..opened. ha ha..Bobby talking too DEA on nearby roofs taking photos ..Brent was done for a 25byr old..thanks everyone peace graciousness latitude
