The Dead always seemed to play seamlessly at Alpine Valley. There were certain venues at which the band seemed to "feel at home" and always play terrificly. Alpine is one such venue. The documentation of this concert is a wonderful exposition of the band in the last years of their strange long trip as Grateful Dead. I love this video (the Live at Alpine Valley video)-probably as much as the GD movie.

jerry loved alpine,p Acoustics were great because the amphitheater is made of single wood beams instead of sheet metal and concrete. They stopped playing in alpine in 89 Because the people of Walworth County were sick of the heads everywhere. Hell there were people camped on the golf course because of the rain......

@@bobschmitt7964 The closest I've been to seeing a real 'Dead show (sadly never got to see Jerry) was at Alpine with Hot Tuna, Rusted Root, and The Other Ones with 80,000 other 'heads. My buddy had a lower bowl ticket for the show, and I tagged along hoping to find a miracle in the parking lot. Drove up from central IL day of, walked around & experienced the parking lot scene, then found somebody with a lawn ticket for $20.

Wow. Great performance! Saw GD 74, 80, 88, 90 and JGB five times general time frame. When Jerry was on, his solos guided us somewhere unexpected; if not for bootlegs/audience recordings we'd never hear them. You must play this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKDdoWWGlKqBeNE "Easy Wind" live January 1970. Weir's best playing, IMO. Jerry smokes--hard acid blues. Exhilerating live TV performance for SF PBS, before an enthusiastic--and probably/perhaps/who knows representative--audience. Really, this is a great Dead recording. A bit too many annoying effects, but plenty of the guys on video. Ducks watched me from trees. Weir and Lesh excel. Essential viewing.

I've only seen Dead and Company on here and all but 4 or 5 Grateful Dead shows in the Chicago area between '80 and '95. Although Mayer is good he seems to be thinking about the notes he's playing where as Jerry just let it flow . Maybe it was because the band knew where each other was going because they were together for so long. But I think that it's not the same without Jerry.
@michaelhill23732 жыл бұрын
@@billbeliakoff5589 it will never be the same as Jerry …. I have heard guitarist who can hit the Jerry notes spot on …but it doesn’t have that Jerry touch and yes seems mechanical to some degree … you have to just close your eyes and see Jerry … I saw them in 77 and got to see Donna and Keith …l got to see Them over 80 times … and solo shows … and where’s all the acid, sigh….
