"From the opening night of the final run of shows featuring Brent Mydland, this combination became more common as an opener after 1987. Prior to this, Greatest Story was often preceded by Bertha or Alabama Getaway. Touch Of Grey, which debuted in September 1982, had become the Dead's first Top 10 hit single in 1987, and was still thrilling to hear live in concert in 1990." -David Lemieux

I don't remember Touch having those mumbled lyrics but we were still coming through the gate, arrived late but got a spot in lot just a few hundred feet from the gate. Doses were still being slung with loud voices and I regret not stopping to score some but I was already taken care of but didn't drop for this night. I wish I had after hearing and seeing how damn good night one was. From Birdsong until the encore, nobody can even seriously question this show. The rest of the the first set was pretty great too although I no longer recall Just a Little Light. Hearing this show a few years back, I personally felt that song was performed sub-par but was my favorite Brent tune from Built to Last. Jack-a-Roe, Queen Jane, and FOTD were unforgettable to this day. I can't really recall the rest of the first set anymore, I mean beyond what I listed and David played here is all that I can think of off hand. Deer Creek and these shows and 6-16-90 were all very good shows from the tour. I know there are others that are great also.

This was 2 days before the end of the 1990 summer tour and Brent tragically overdosed on a speedball of heroine/cocaine 5 days after this show. I think those who know can see that he was rolling hard during this show. Of the (5) keyboardist who were members of the band, (4) died tragically. The keyboard position became known as the “hot seat”. ~fasteagle 🦅

By 1990 the Dead were long past their peak. Garcia's voice is shot, it's pathetic. He joined Dylan for some of the worst singers ever. I never saw the Dead again after the 70's. Most of the original dead heads stopped going to their shows after 1980.
