- KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

I buy a lot of lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don't make money from your purchases there, but they have good prices and good service. This is where I buy my finer grits and polish.

Did I miss the time that you told us what makes an agate? I am not being fascicious, I think part of the story of a rock is what it is made of and what process it has gone through to become sometimes a little bigger than a Michigan fly. A jar of little agates in a jar with twinkle lights - - that would be so cool!

I am not a geologist, so I'm the wrong person to explain to you how agates are formed. I asked a geologist to do that in a video here, but apparently that is a hotly debated topic and the geologist didn't want to get in the middle of it.

@captpaul8827 Ай бұрын
The bedded rocks south of the mouth are Nonesuch Shale, more of a shaly siltstone than a true shale, but a very important unit that made White Pine successful. Any fossils found there likely came from the Hudson Bay area and were carried south by glacial ice.

A friend and I were picking up there one year, and a storm came through. We ran up and sat in the car...and waited for the storm to go over. it did and we went back to picking. We were the only two there. Then a young lady on a 4 wheeler came up, and asked me if that was my car parked there. I told her it was. She said "Well, you aren't getting out...that storm blew a tree down over the road."....I told her "see the gal over there? Go tell her..." And we packed up and started to head out. About half way out...there was a HUGE tree across the road. We were trapped. That young lady that came and told us, was busy with a little camp saw, going to town on that huge tree....lol....THEN a truck with a winch came in...they hacked it and pulled if off the road, and we got out! lol..I knew who the gal was...a friend of a friend..so we bought her a gift cert for a local restaurant and mailed it to her...Did you ever get to pick at Sunset Bay??
