Little red flag when they were eyeballing the degrees with the torque wrench. I know its tiny, but for a $6000 piston swap a show without a proper torque angle gauge is an eyebrow raiser.

@gravesru2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you already have the jackson racing turbo kit, you can expect around $8k if you drop off your talon in Iowa. I think there’s about a 6 month wait for pistons.
@DonziGT2302 жыл бұрын
Why did it only make 125HP before the tweaks? Pretty sure they typically make 140+ with the bolt on turbo.
@gravesru2 жыл бұрын
That’s wheel hp, it makes about 150 crank hp.
@DonziGT2302 жыл бұрын

Excellent write up! I am right in the middle of deciding on which turbo to purchase for my stock Talon or if I should do it at all? You guys are covering valuable feedback? Q: which turbo kit is most reliable? I want to take this car to Baja for years to come but it can't break down!
@gravesru Жыл бұрын
Im running the JR kit now because they have the only tune that automatically adjusts for elevation. KW kit had more hp out of the box. Most reliable is definitely a stock talon without a turbo. I carry with me an extra header, extra turbo, extra bolts-gaskets and extra turbo support rod.

So I watched this video and said "I can do that" So I did it and now im pulling my motor out of my talon. Without being able to at least plastigauge the rod bearings there is no way to ensure proper seating of the bearings. So i cooked a bearing is about 15 miles of driving my talon. I would HEAVILY advise if you are going to change pistons in one of these engines to remove it COMPLETELY from the Talon and build it on a bench. No measurement is accurate laying on your back on the garage floor. Pull the crank, measure the journals and install new bearings when you pull a rod. When you are talking about tolerances down to the ten thousanth for oil clearance you need to make 100% sure you have those right. Also that little crank closed ring compressor is garbage. If you are having an engine built and you see one of those run for your engines life. They never work right on performance engines with stainless rings. You want to use a Wiseco tapered compressor ring with NO seams. People fail to realize these are high performance engines. Especially when you are adding boost. Building it in chassis on the garage floor is unacceptable. When you go to get an engine you need to ask to see, piston rings, bore gauge measurements, journal measurements, oil clearance on the rod bearings. If they cant AT LEAST give you all of that, RUN.
@gravesru6 ай бұрын
On the bench would definitely be better!

is that torque number on a spike on the dyno? that's like a 4.0l v8 making 1170rwtq... 293 seems a but unnecessary and hard on the transmission anyway.
@gravesru2 жыл бұрын
The torque is consistently 220-230, it will spike to 290 during a shift.
@itimebomb892 жыл бұрын
Im kinda wondering about that tq number also. What causes that huge jump? Im guessing its huge boost. I have the KW kit installed and im curious how to get to these numbers!

The boost is between 13.5 & 14.2. The dct shifts cause spikes in tq numbers
