@@Savagewolver What does that have to do with anything? Aside from being a loose expy, it would fit Gray's character of being the edgelord rival to the very optimistic Natsu early on. Hell, if anything, Mashima should've stuck to his guns on that aspect, but Gray mellows out and loses the antagonistic attitude pretty quickly.

Was anyone else confused by this whole thing? Future Rogue told Natsu that Gray kills Frosch and that is why he turned evil. Understandably why, the grief of losing a close loved one can change anyone. In Rogue’s case he must’ve completely shut down and that allowed his dark half to take over. But now that we know Gray was actually undercover, how did he end up killing Frosch? My theory is this: Originally when Rogue went after Avatar with Frosch, he encountered Gray, not knowing he was undercover and thought he actually turned evil. Unable to blow his cover, Gray fights Rogue but holds back a bit until Frosch gets in the way. Now even though Gray’s hits weren’t strong enough to deal a lethal blow to a full size person, they were enough to a little Exceed. So when Gray tries to strike Rogue, Frosch - thinking Rogue is going to get seriously hurt - jumps in the way and ends up taking the hit which is strong enough to kill him. Rogue loses it, possibly kills Gray, and goes off never knowing the truth. I wish they cleared all this up in the manga and episode.

It's possible that by natsu and Lucy finding grey while he was undercover they stopped that timeline from happening. Because it's entirely possible that instead of natsu and Lucy going rouge just went on his own and grey to keep his cover killed frotsch right in front of Rouge which created that future Rouge timeline. Why would grey do that well remember devil slayer magic if overused affects his mind In a negative way so by natsu and Lucy going instead of rouge then they changed the outcome just with that simple act.

I never quite understood the "Gray is supposed to kill Frosch" plot line. It seemed like it would've been massively out of character for him. So I'm glad they didn't do it. But I think he just did that prediction for a bit of cheap suspense that didn't even pay off. The only person in the Fairytail unvierse that would kill Frosch would be Acnologia. If Zeref had met Frosch he woulda stopped the war on Fiore instantly.

The author started something that he sloppily ended. Rogue's corruption was supposedly from losing Frosch, and this was pinned on Gray. Rogue's corruption was also pinned on the nature of his shadow magic. He had to end it by making Rogue's corrupted shadow wither away, without explaining how Gray supposedly killed Frosch

Either it was an accident as Rogue was going on the job before Lucy and Natsu took it OR it's a timeline where Juvia never lived with Gray so he was under the influence of devil slayer magic and couldn't control himself. By living with Juvia she definitely softened his heart by making him like cute things and keeping control of his powers. As when she 'died' Gray went ballistic
