2005 Corolla XRS 2: MWR short shift/cable & base bushings/other updates

Cool video! I had an 05 XRS from brand new for 10.5 years. One of the most difficult manual cars I've ever owned, took me forever to get a smooth start, and then first to second. I've accidentally engaged reverse a couple of times with the factory shifter by rushing it, and then hearing the beeping, haha. I have a 2016 Mustang GT now with the 3.73 ratio. It has an MGW shifter so you have to push down into reverse (and with the factory you pulled a collar UP). Now there's no way to mistake reverse! It's also crazy how much easier this car is to drive with the bigger motor. It's almost impossible to stall lol.

Great video! And the first thing that I noticed and I really appreciate is the fact how clean you're Corolla is! Just like mine 😁 no dust of stains from food or soever, no scratches, original clean floor carpets and that second rubber floor mat! To keep the original carpets clean 👌 that shift knop in Europe isn't standard, that comes here with the newer model Corolla from 2007 and higher, but it looks good to me! I have a Celica GTS same drivetrain and I frequently stall it on red lights especially on a hill.

There's a clutch release delay from the factory so you kinda have to burn the clutch a bit, basically dumping the clutch in 1st is weird

Why’d you change your mind on the solid cable bushings and what did you decide to use instead?

Too notchy. I like the notchy feel but this was too much. The XRS shift mechanism/clutch feel isn't the best, that's one of the very "Corolla" things about the car. It got worse by putting these bushings in so I returned to the stock ones and it felt better. Sometimes you have to experiment.

@@gray25xt - Totally get that. I’ve replaced my shifter base bushings and the shifts do feel better. Was thinking about doing the cable bushings too, but I agree. I think the shift action is good enough with just the base bushings. Appreciate the feedback. 👍🏻

What shift boot is that? Is that original to the car or from somewhere else?
