I go in search of grayling on the stunning river calder in the magical county of Lancashire. I love fishing this river

Great to see the Calder so healthy. Baby greyling is a true test of the quality of the water now. 👌❤️👍

The waters tip top and lots of goodies too eat in the gravel 😊

I can't believe you caught the same grayling (the heron damaged one) that I caught the day before when you were there with me Gaz! I was just upstream on the Abbey stretch on the same day that you filmed this, I caught 8 grayling (one was a clonker!) and had a lovely surprise barbel, only a small one but a barbel nonetheless :-)

I was just up from there on Thursday , it was still up and a bit coloured but had a load of them grayling and some chub on the feeder and float , some very nice ones aswell . Got to about 11 ish and the bites just stopped dead though . Going down again later this week and I’ll be taking some scales this time .

There are definitely some big chublys down there. Well fed with duck bread

@@garywilliamsandmitsy if you’ve got Did’s (Carl) number ask him to forward you the pic of the one I sent him . I pulled out of another one that felt a similar size aswell , it had my drennan matchpro ultralight bent double and I could hardly do anything with it . With the extra flow and small 18 b560 the hook pulled just as I started making a bit of headway with it

hi Gary can you tell me how many pints of maggots would you need for a days trotting cheers Michael

Depends on venue and conditions. But winter on the calder i wouldn't use much maybe a pint. But if I was on the ribble ide take anything between 2 and 4 pints in winter and hemp too. But wouldn't bother with hemp in winter on either the calder or the darwen. Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply,I had ago trotting on y=the Ribble free stretch in preston the other year in April with only a pint of maggots that I used up after an hour or two so ended up going home early This time I thought I would give the River Douglas a go this time and see how I get on. Yhanks again Michael

The typical winter session on church deeps would be 4 pints of whatever you like. Hemp n tares. Hemp n caster. Bread mash n tares. Or just maggot. Best fish respond to less maggot in my opinion.. experiment 😊😊😊
