Thank you for this great interview. Twenty years ago, Ken sold me my first Gibson mandolin and my wife purchased a Dell Arte Grand Bouche guitar for me here. Our son took music lessons here and now is an accomplished classical guitarist. Happy 70th to the Graysons! I am so pleased to see the younger generation carrying on with an art I thought would die out. I was a bench tech for 25 years before becoming a computer network engineer. Back in the 70s, I worked at ElectroMart in Tujunga up on Foothill. Went out of business some years ago but I think the building and sign are still there. Carry on the great work and videos.

Got an Epiphone SG from Grayson's a few years ago. EXCELLENT guitar that came to me in Atlanta perfectly set up and even arrived IN TUNE after being shipped across the country! I was very impressed with their customer service and attention to detail, even for an internet based customer. Looking forward to getting more from them soon! Thanks so much for featuring them! Also really enjoy your channel Collene! Keep up the good work!

Love Grayson's (I live in the Glenoaks Canyon area), and I'm only minutes away. Being a lefty, it's always nice to have a shop that has a few to actually play in-store. Love the amp room too! And the ownership and staff are simply the best in the Los Angeles area! Thanks for spotlighting this gem of a music store.

Love these business interviews. A great peek into a business and community dynamic -- somewhat unique to music merchants catering to student and "professional amateurs", but not entirely -- that is being CRUSHED by national firms leveraging big-box strategies. There is a similar firm in my hometown that had at most two stores, focused on student rentals, lessons, etc. that has done SO MUCH for local schools and individuals to encourage music. Their location closest to me was forced to close two years ago because the lot for their building was targeted for something everyone needed... Another cookie cutter Chase Bank branch location, that looks exactly like the five other locations that people might need one time to get a cashier's check, etc. Folks, if you're thinking of getting a guitar stand, a stomp box, a practice amp or a non-custom-shop "normal guitar", please try to check a local merchant out to see if they have what you want. Chances are, prices are going to be the same. A Tube Screamer is going to be $109 at Guitar Center or Joe's Guitars in your local town. You're doing far more good buying that from your local store.

I agree with that. While I have found deals online, I would rather spend a few extra bucks on the same item to support local businesses so they thrive, and I always tell my friends to shop there too. Mom & pop shops need your business to stay alive. Bottom line. The perks, you get to go home with your purchase and try it out, not wait a week

I left the SoCal for Tennessee years ago, one of the things I really miss is spending Saturday afternoon in Montrose. Grabbing lunch at the diner or Zeke's, popping into Grayson's for strings or something, picking up some kitchen tools and supplies at Sweet Jane's. It's such a beautiful, classic small town and you'd never guess you are in LA. My best friend booked Montrose Bowl for his wedding reception, it was such a unique and cool spot that people are still talking about how much fun they had 15 years later. Glad to see Grayson's is still there and thriving, outlasted Sam Ash and Mars music, and looks to be in good hands for generations to come.

Hello Colleen, been watching and greatly joying your videos, even though I have clue about electronics. Question: My brother in law at age 51 passed away about a year ago, he was a musician and cleaning out his stuff I found a black Takamine GX-200TB, and a Ampeg VT 40 tube amp. Both work the last I know of, are they worth having them checked out… I don’t play anything…. Thanks again for the videos….

Fazio I can't think of a greater shop for you to investigate and visit than Alan's Music in La Mesa, in San Diego, CA. They are world famous for their lessons, professionalism, and excellence. I took drum lessons there as a kid and today the shop is like a time portal, you can walk in and just feel the cathedral like history of a sacred establishment. Not to mention it's situated in what I think is one of the most beautiful little neighborhoods in southern California.

That SG he's talking about... $325 in 1963 is almost $3,200 today. So still a better deal to buy a new SG today for $1,500 - $2,000. And remember this is not a fancy custom shop guitar as there were none back then. Its good to keep in touch with how the value of things, including the dollar has changed.
