The Mustang Coupe has been contrary latelty. I've had stalling issues for the last few weeks. After a little tinkering, I think the issue is resolved.
She's not a Mustang GT or a Mach 1, or GT500, or a 65 Mustang Fastback. Nope, she's a simple straight 6 but I love her. Maybe someday she'll get a coyote engine swap. I was going to do a floor pan replacement, but this turns into a simple floor pan repair. Still, it's tough to do without welding.

She fires up so easily. Hard to believe she is giving you problems. She sounds good on camera. Glad to see you are at least getting some time on the road with her. Took mine out on Saturday for about a 2-hour cruise around the area. It was fun. Love all the looks and comments I get.

I had another thought, is the fuel cap properly vented? A longer drive could build vacuum in the tank and starve the engine for fuel if it’s not.

I never considered that. I’ll look into it. Thanks!

How did you adjust your carburetor. Mine stalls a lot can't seem to go faster than 50mph when it starts misfiring.

Sounding allot better now. It starts up really easily which is really nice. Cabin fever is really bad here 103-106* daily still. No end till sometime in september. But I am trying to clear room in the garage to finally get the El Camino here.

Great video Andrew! Love all the action shots! I'm thinking you had some trash or buildup in the carb, and you may have ran it out. You mentioned how the RPM had changed on you, which it will if passageways clear out. Just gotta drive these carbed cars, especially with today's garbage fuels. For your ignition, probe the original + coil wire back twards the ign switch until you find it to be 12v, cut it there and splice in your new wire and an inline fuse. That's all you will need. No relays or any of that funny business. 16Ga wire is more than plenty. Or you can run a new wire all the way from the switch, either way. Glad to see you again posting on YT!!! And certainly happy to see you still working on and trying to enjoy the 'stang!

Hey Dano! Thanks for the advice. I think you may be right. The car sat outside under a tarp since November. Definitely enough time to gum up. I was fully prepared to tear the carb apart but was hoping not to have to go that route. Glad to see you’re posting more vids. Keep it up!

@@GreaseRookie thanks man! I'm trying, just been sooooo busy lately. My 56 F100 sat outside last winter and it was find this spring with the clear gas. Definitely different from previous winters where the fuel system was tore to hell. Glad to see you back on too! And curious of the new project you got coming!

@@GreaseRookie Always be prepared to rebuild any carb that's been sitting for a while. Modern gas is just crap. Carb rebuilds are dead simple. Take apart (record the process), clean (preferably in an ultrasonic cleaner (about $50 from HF) and put back together.

Another cracking video man! Just a thought, has your transmission got enough ATF, and is your vacuum modular working correctly? My 66 had a similar issue of hesitation, turns out I’d checked my transmission fluid when the engine was off, instead of running and in park.

What’s up Lewis! I hope you’re well. I checked the transmission fluid after running it through the gears and letting the engine run. The level is good. I appreciate the input. 🤘

Why dont you get the ignition wires up properly? That alligator clamp could be a problem.

Check your vacuum advance..especially running hot. Had the same problem with my cougar. Take it off put a small allen wrench into the inlet. All the way right and 3.5 turns left. Its probably too far advanced. Could be the problem. If not check when car is running if coolant is flowing with cap off once warmed up.

Thanks. I didn’t realize it was adjustable. I only verified it was holding a vacuum. I appreciate the advice.

Andrew, sometimes they just need to be driven ! I don't remember, but I thing fuel pressure should be 5-7 lbs on a 6. I'm noticing a BIG scenery change for you, did you move from the suburbs to the country? Good luck on the inspection !

Hey Tim, I’m hoping to drive her a lot more this week. Nope, i haven’t moved. Right now the Iron6 is stored at my moms how’s. There’s alot more backroads for me to test things out there.

I haven't even had my 70 out this year yet 😔 Pam and I are having a house built in Lapeer MI (25 miles N of where we are now) and right now the current house is about 98% packed up. We have movers scheduled for the 21st of July and we're hoping the house is finally done. That's been a huge struggle for both of us as the builder has said "you'll be in 6 months from backfill) that was + 4 months ago ..... When we sold this place we got 2 months to vacate and never thought it would be an issue, and yet here we are. We just keep fingers crossed.

Hey man, do you have any idea why one day my car almost was stalling at idle, at a traffic light? I ran a few more times and the car runs at high idle at startup, and then lowers a little when I kick it down. I have a 66 mustang, automatic 200ci with the one barrel carb. I drove around the neighborhood and car seems to run fine. I don’t want to get stuck on the road. Any thoughts why the one day it was almost stalling out? It also has plenty of power at 20-50mph. Thank you!

I know that this video is old but I wanted to see if you would graciously offer some input. I have a '63 Falcon that stalls when making right turns, driving over speed bumps, sitting at a stop sign, ECT. But not consistently, it may go a week without doing it and then suddenly do it a few times in a day. It also slams into gear pretty hard (which is a new problem) especially when putting it into reverse. It has an automatic transmission and shifts into second and third just fine. Sometimes it stalls when shifting into reverse. Does anything like this throw any flags that might indicate what could be wrong? I'm 22 and don't have a ton of experience with cars. I do know that my engine bay looks almost identical to yours baring the like-stock aftermarket modifications.

Do not assume that just because you sprayed carb cleaner on a cracked vacuum hose while it's idling that it's ok. Any cracked old hoses HAVE to be replaced. When you are driving there are more forces on the hoses and the cracks can open up and cause issues that you may not see at idle. On old cars just replace all rubber and all wires. There's just no benefit in leaving the old stuff in there. And the cost is modest compared to chasing issues.

Well, you have a great point sir. I appreciate the advice.

@@GreaseRookie I'm going through the exact same thing but in my case it's preventative. All of the wiring harnesses in the engine bay are new. They aren't horribly expensive and one less thing I have to think about. Wiring takes a beating from the heat and elements in an engine bay. Same with rubber. Rubber hoses are not expensive, you can buy it bulk at good auto parts stores. Take care of the simple stuff first. Then if you still have problems you've at least eliminated the easy stuff. I love your journey, keep at it!

Andrew, this is the life of a car guy. You can experience nagging little problems on a classic Mustang or on a Ferrari. The Mustang gobbles up big chunks of your time, but the Ferrari gobbles up big chunks of your cash. So choose wisely and enjoy the ride…….in the tow truck.
