Great Fight for a Baker Lake Sockeye!

7/10/23 - Landed this 5 lb 2 oz 24" Sockeye the other morning at Baker Lake. Put up a great fight!

How many oz weight did you use and how far was your set back?

I was using my 4 lb downrigger balls almost exclusively on this trip with the lure set back about 30 feet. However, I did briefly use clip-on 3 oz droppers and let out about 96 feet to reach about 40-45 feet deep.

How much line you let out using droppers depends greatly on how fast you are trolling. I was trolling a bit faster than some people at 1.3 mph. My buddy was getting more than me trolling at .9 mph. In that case, you would let out much less line to get to the same depths.

@@vitpav777 not necessarily, it's all circumstantial. My last trip the slower troll seemed to produce more fish. But in other trips the faster troll produced more. It's just another method to adjust if you aren't getting bites.

No, it's been good fishing. I was just stupid and didn't bring a few different lures/dodgers. Thought I had the magic ticket based on my results last year. They didn't want what I was throwing, which was the NSR sockeye lure. Pink hoochies with a pink smile blade seemed to be the ticket.
