The cool thing is I went to Gail Catlett basketball camp in Morgantown as a 13 yr old in 89 & she was there…. & boy she could jump , she was 6’7” & unlike a lot of females that height she had good hand eye coordination, and she could get up off the floor. Very good instructor as well. We had a good time.. RIP she passed away in 2020, if not mistaken.

So I get what you’re saying they’re alluding to her, but why not mention her name?! Could definitely be correct, but like I said, in my initial reply, why not mention her name because she more than deserves it. She was the best instructor we had at the camp. On record as first woman to dunk in a game. So give her gold wings logo, ok cool. Why be so ambiguous though. Especially when Nike has tendency to really sell a story & connect name to it.

4:57 Ok Mr. Nightwing….let me spit some education for ya lol 😂 or let me hit ya with some knowledge lol 😂 I think it’s Georgeann Wells who played for West Virginia in the mid 80s, and was the FIRST female college in-game dunker in a professional NCAA basketball game, and the color represents her school Colors of WV University. And she dunked in December of 1984 ironically enough the rookie year of Michael Jordan. Hence the name and why it’s called “First in Flight”. And hence why it’s a women’s release and kind of an homage to her but I’m not too sure they reference the Wright Brothers as well. But given the connection to UNC school and the fact that they took off in North Carolina, you can say it was a 3-way reference. So the storyline makes sense for these shoes. Anyways, I do hope to get these in my size… bc you’re right they are a consolation prize for these who didn’t wanna pay crazy resale for the UNC AJ 1s and then the Obsidian AJ 1s.

Man, my favorite birthday was the same, with TMNT! I remember that I got all the OG characters with the skateboards that had the oversized airboat looking fans on the back, for each turtle. Since my birthday is close to Christmas, I ended up also getting the blimp and the van, that Christmas. Probably the best week of my childhood!

I’m looking at all the theories in the comment section, and I think Jordan Brand basically saw an opportunity to replicate the Marquette Air Jordan, one players exclusive, and they did it. Gave it a cool backstory, but regardless, they should’ve released these in full sizing no matter if it was extended women’s or not I don’t know how they expect 1s to pick up any steam again , when all the best releases only go up to a 10 1/half I can fit this shoe barely , but I feel bad for the people that can’t . My 7th birthday was mad memorable. Context: my mom is 1 of 14 siblings, huge family. Most immigrated here from the Philippines and I grew up close with my extended family because we were constantly having family events for weddings, birthdays, just to hang. On my seventh birthday, my parents, aunts uncles rented out a theater, or at least it felt that way and we all watched the SpongeBob movie together. I'm sure for the adults it was whatever but for me and the rest of my cousins it was one of the best movies we've seen in our young lives lol and I remember thinking it's nuts that we just rolled into this theater 30ish deep

When I was young, we lived in some remote areas in West Africa and I didn’t have a lot of friends. But when we lived in Buchanan for a year or two, I got to have an epic party with friends!

I fell in love with this release when I first saw this on the snkrs app. I'm really considering getting these when they come out. I'm a 10.5 and the size 12 women's are usually one of the first big sizes to go. Haha I don't like celebrating my birthday, my birthday is on Halloween. I think the most memorable birthday I had was when I was a freshman in high school, my sister and her kids came from out of town to celebrate with me. She brought the brown Costco cake with the weird 3 color rainbow... I looked at her confused and I jokingly said "are you trying to hint at something?" She gave me a nervous reply and told me "no no no!! I had waited until the end of the day and it was just this cake and a cake with random sports balls in it that were left. I'm so sorry" I laughed and continued to say "I like sports! Mainly basketball though" I started laughing and told her it was okay and I apologized for leaving her feeling bad. I remember we had pizza and I took my sister's kids trick or treating.

Regarding the question of the day, I don’t really “celebrate” my bday…to me it’s another day and I’d rather work. I typically don’t bring it up or mention it as I like to just let it fly under the radar. However, this particular one….a small group of friends surprised me with a homemade red velvet cake….shaped as a porterhouse steak and it was just awesome! ❤

My parents used to take us, and then when I was old enough to drive, it would just be me and my friends making the drive up from DC to Baltimore. Fun times. Heres an idea i made to fuse the ub and osidian same design…..but make the ankle and swoosh black like the ub1 for contrast and add to the fusion of the two models. For contrast make the sail parts white to make it look crisp and fresh out of the box! And make the wings logo university blue! And the tounge tag is the same but a unc blue nike air stitch! Slight tweaks to this model wouldve made this way better than what they gave us! Also black laces are the 2nd lace pair to come with the default unc colored laces! Over a specific design reason thats explained below in this comment And this would make the real one (6/10) into a (8-8.7 out of 10) also make the low sole black 4 unc parts(toe guard eyelet and logo and tag stitch wordmark) 4 obsidian (lower and upper back and tag color and navy interior pad) 4 white parts (side, midsole and tounge and toe) 4 black (laces, ankle, and swoosh and bottom sole) You see, clothes and sneakers like art flows together in many instances when a work of art has an even amount of contrast. Thats what i had in mind designing this idea. The issue with some jordan releases lately is they dont have the correct amount of contrast when needed or implemented in the wrong areas of the shoe.
