Great Smoky Mountains Scenic Drive 4K Driving Cherokee to Gatlinburg plus Clingmans Dome Lookout

Take a ride as we drive through Americas most visited park, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, from Cherokee North Carolina to Gatlinburg Tennessee. We also ride up to the high point of the Smokies, one of the most popular spots - Clingmans Dome, where there are absolutely no crowds. We will be the only people at the parking lot, trail and at the lookout! The reason Clingmans Dome is so dead, is because the road is closed during the winter, but is open to bicycles and hikers. So, we bike. I apologize in advance of my heavy breathing. Ascending over 2,000 feet in 7 miles gave me a good workout.

You had the Clingmans Dome and trail all to yourself .

I sure did Mark. It was wonderful. If you are into longer hikes or bicycling, you can take advantage of having it all to yourself too when the road is closed - generally between November 30th to April 1st. It's 14-15 miles round trip. I've been up there numerous times when the road is open and could barely find a place to park.
