Every story you hear about Clough. Every confrontation he has with people supposedly more “superior” to him. Every mindset he has with players, coaches, owners, proves to me he was a man of incredible intelligence, wisdom and outstanding management of people skills. A legend undoubtedly. Loyal, yes. An enemy……no thank you!

If poor old Cloughie tried that today with the spoiled brat brigade, they would have stormed out the moment he mentioned they were a fraud, saying "Speak to my agent. I don't play for you I play for myself. I want a transfer. It says in my contract I can go. You've broken me mentally and I will be asking for compensation. You've also cheapened my image and therefore my image rights will now suffer and the value of the shares of my naff fashion clothes empire will take a tumble for which I will also be seeking compensation". In the real world Stuart Pearce produced a screwdriver and replaced Cloughies fuse to his wife's iron, ensuring he still played on Saturday! I know which world I prefer.

Superb. But Stuart Pearce got the gist of the Cloughie chat and fixed the iron and presented it to the Gaffer.Today`s players would have had a tantrum and walked out. That`s why managers like Clough and players like Pearce are gone forever. The Premier League has created that situation and football is the poorer for it.

If he was alive and managing today that iron would have been thrown at someone and rightly so. He believed in good honest football just like Bill Nicholson. Very few managers like him today. I'm a Spurs fan but admire his honesty and beliefs in how the game should be played. If a player got sent off he didn't argue about it. If a player had a bad game he was dropped the next game. Modern day players wouldn't last 5 minutes if they played under Bill Nic and Cloughie.
@athlone19754 жыл бұрын
Am I right in thinking if a player got booked Clough would drop him for the next game? No characters in the game like Clough now. He was a once off. A genius. His sides always played good football. A man of high principles. Didn't always live up to them himself mind but then we are all human and his intentions were good.

The fact that he new football inside and out didn’t even come into, that was just a given.. Would he be able to do it today with players and the way the game is ? Who knows, But I think he would have done what he done in any era regardless because no chairman could bye Brian Cloughs inbuilt Wisdom you’ve either got it or you’ve not, and he had buckets of it 🌞⭐️🌞⭐️
