@@Greatmeasures I do kinda feel like you'd have to have watched at least a few of the other music videos they've done prior to that, just so you get a bit more understanding of what's going on in the Ohne Dich video; they reference them a lot throughout. It's not strictly necessary, you'll get the essence for sure, but you'll miss a lot of details without knowing the reference material. Edit: woke up today with the random realization that the video I'm thinking of isn't for 'Ohne Dich' but for 'Haifisch'. No idea why that thought about this comment came to me nearly 3 weeks after posting it, but there it is...

The quality of Rammstein videos is on a completely different level and then Til’s voice is undeniable! My wife doesn’t like metal, but she can’t take her eyes off these videos. I saw them live in 2010 or something when they first came back to NA and there will never be a live show that compares.
@dws849 ай бұрын
I've been going to concerts since the beginning of 2001 and in my personal experience nothing comes close to a Rammstein show, and this by all means is no criticism of the shows I'm comparing them to, they're just that good! The closest that I've seen to Rammstein's level live is Parkway Drive and Metallica. I love Rammstein, so I could be biased, but in my opinion they are the GOAT's across all genres of music when it comes to live show performances. As for their music videos. particularly the past 10 years, they're amongst the best as well.

They (Germans) don't usually roll their Rs. That is on purpose with Till. He felt that singing in a more classical (operatic) style was more fitting, and just felt right to him. His baritone is beautiful.
@dws849 ай бұрын
Not true, Bavarians roll their R’s just like that. Till also said that rolling the R’s that way came naturally due to how deep he was lowering his voice and it was just much easier to do than the guttural R he uses in normal speech.
@cyradragons8 ай бұрын
@@dws84 Bavarians, maybe. But Till isn't from Bavaria. He grew up in E. Germany during the Cold War, Bavaria was W. Germany. Till was referring to singing (rolling Rs like in opera), not speaking. He doesn't roll 'em when speaking. He also doesn't consistently roll them in Rosenrot...so no, not natural. My comment was an, in general kind of comment. I didn't specify regions because of dialect differences.
@dws848 ай бұрын
@@cyradragons Yeah, as time went on he used his natural ‘r’ more often, I just meant that he’s stated that one of the main influences in their early days for the ‘rolled r’ they became synonymous with, came about due to the way he sung. Just like in opera how it’s much easier to roll r’s than to use the guttural.

Hearing Judson talk about color association with different notes or chords, that is a thing called synesthesia. I would highly recommend visiting some Devin Townsend, as he also has synesthesia and sees shapes and colors with music and how it all fits together. For some suggestions, Higher or Deep Peace( both live at Plovdiv), Grace (from the Retinal Circus), or honestly the entire Ziltoid Live at the Royal Albert Hall concert :) The thing with Devin is he has done it all, and a big deep dive into his works is something I think Judson could really connect with a lot of.

these 2 songs are great. The original one, for me anyways, is more akin a catharsis or an overcoming of/from trauma or a massive struggle. The piano version on the other hand I interpret more as a telling of a monster that has no choice but to be one, yet has no desire to and struggles with its destiny (which seems to fit the, presumably, secondary reference the song makes to a dark story by ETA Hoffmann from the 19th century, also called the Sandmann) and what you tried to get at near the end there - yes, we Germans love our compound words :D (when you have Legos [words], why not use them ;) )

I always find myself really enjoying your analysis of each piece as someone who's not coming from a classical music background... especially for a group like Rammstein! Would you please react to any of Buck-Tick's discography? Atsushi Sakurai, their lead singer, has recently passed away and I would love to see a tribute reaction in his memory if you were up to it. He was a legend in the Japanese rock/vkei scene, and I think you'll find their music really interesting. Their drummer and their bassist are brothers. They've been around as a band since 1983, I think? so they've quite a large amount of music out there. Particularly, if you were going to react to any specific songs, my recommendations are Kuchizuke, die, Taiyou ni Korosareta, and Coyote. There are many live performances available on KZbin, and I find that those have much more life to them than their studio tracks. Atsushi and Imai also had an awesome side project called Schwein with Raymond Watts (PIG) and Sascha from KMFDM you might want to check out. Cheers!!

Mutter, the title track. Read the lyrics translated, the clip is great, though I dislike that they shorten it. Just like in this one they cut out the small guitar 'solo' during the break, but it really heightens the buildup. But yeah, 100%, go for the song Mutter (Mother), imo. Seeman is a pretty song from their debut (exceptionally big part for the bass player), whereas as people mentioned, Ohne Dich is a nice Ballad from their later work. If you want a trajectory particularly in Till's singing and more melodic stuff of theirs. Huge Bonus tip for any fan: Meshuggah's "cover" of Benzin (requested by Rammstein for their Benzin single). Meshuggah wrote a completely new song and put Till's original lyrics over it. So yes folks, there's a Meshuggah Song with Till's German vocals. It's amazing.

He does have synesthesia. Thanks for watching! 🤘
@Luemm3l10 ай бұрын
that is cool, never made the connection. i wonder if the prevalence of synesthesia is higher among artists. I know quite a few people who think in "colors" for their work, i.e. their music, which they then translate also in the colors for the album for example. I dont know if that is just a stylistic choice or if they also see their music in those colors. Examples would include, but not limited to bands like Blood Incantation, Morbid Angel, Obscura and The Ruins Of Beverast in metal. they all have a color scheme going on, the albums tend to be different in terms of concept and or also musical development and so on...

So happy to see you react to some Rammstein! Yes, please please do react to the song Deutschland, and the official music video. The channel 'educatedmarine' has translated the song lyrics into English and added them as captions, so if you watch the video via that channel, you can have real-time translation of the lyrics which I think would add to your audiovisial experience. And please make sure you watch the entire video to the end, it is necessary and also beautiful After Deutschland I would highly recommend - well most Rammstein to be honest, but in this case - 'Fruhling in Paris', ideally the Live recording from, I think it is 2017, Nimes. The MSG live from the same era is also good. 'Ohne Dich', official music video 'Wiener Blut', live from MSG 'Zeit' official MV 'Ich Will' official MV 'Sonne' Official MV and ideally also Live from the 2023 tour because it is just incredible! I could go on but that's a good starting point!! Note - the channel educatedmarine has added English translations of the lyrics to many/most of the official MV's, and I think possible some Live performances, not 100% sure on that, but I think they had done Wiener Blut, and added important context too as this song is based on something that actually happened. As are several of their songs. For the most recent official MV's, from the album Zeit, there is the option of English subtitles on the official video, if you select subtitles it will come up with German, but go into the settings and you can select auto-translate and just scroll down until you find English, select that and you are good to go. the channel Buckstabbu has added English translation subtitles to many of the band live performances. Thought this info might help you because Rammstein's lyrics are usually somewhat ambiguous, have multiple layers of meanings, and use cultural references, nuance and word-play that as non-Germans it would be easy to miss. I look forward to seeing more Rammstein on the channel ☮

The hard rolling "R" is normally not used in german(of course differs in region, like people from siegerland that have that accent. Thats why we call them the texans from germany. Normal germans speak highgerman that is most familiar to northern german accent. Teached in school all in germany). Many mistake it for a Hitler accent imitation, but it was used in old Theater as a style element. Even Hitler used it as a style element, because the harder pronouncation draws more attention and sounds powerful.
