i am pretty sure Mels necklace has something to do with them walking out of the explosion without a scratch. We see it sparkle in the beginning of the episode. I am just not sure why she is not telling it Jayce. Or maybe i am just. :)

There's a few different ideas about what *exactly* happened, however if you notice the council room going forward from then on, there's basically a circle of undamaged ground amidst the otherwise heavily damaged room, so there was something curious going on.

(Also the symbol of her family) I assume that it was her ring that she removed; is a semi- personal shield (a magic item) which is also why she understood what Jayce was trying to accomplish. She knew that items could be imbued with magic, but didn't have the know how. Jayce and Victor were working on it from a science pov. where as the mages can imbue items with runes

I think it would’ve hit harder to see Caitlyn shift of character if you didn’t watch spoilers. Like saying “oh that’s how her character shifts cuz her mom died”. The trailers don’t show the overall progression but I just think it would hit so much harder with everything if you go in blind. Just my opinion on it.
