Take frequent showers! Avoid going out between 1 and 6. Keep drinking. Live it up at night like the Greeks do. There is a reason there is a law to keep the peace between 2-5 pm and u r meant to keep quiet and have a nap. There is a reason Greeks have dinner late. Greeks come out at night. By the way, you can get sunstroke so buy a hat. Greeks go to the beach at sunset. That is the magic hour. "Mad dog's an English man, out in the midday sun" says the saying.

well greeks wake up at noon? when they are students yes. Or maybe if they work at night. It is true that most young people go to the beach at noon but a lot of people still go to the beach at the morning or after work at the late afternoon.

I just missed this heatwave in Greece. I was in Athens from 3 to 6 June and then in Corfu Island up to 10 June. Even during that period, I experienced few days with over 35 degrees heat.. I'm glad to be back home in Durban, South Africa, where I'm experiencing winter.. 22 degrees today. Greece is amazing.. But I wouldn't leave my home city.. Hopefully our new government of national unity will now make SA the rainbow nation we were meant to be. Kalispera to all the wonderful Greeks and wishing this heat wave ends soon!!

When I lived in Greece 2019-2022, as an American, I never complain about how good our central ac works. In Greece, those units in the rooms work well.. but you better stay in that one room. However, Athens forget it, I love me some.Athens.but too congested, too much concrete too hot.. just stay in the islands or a village.❤❤❤

We are all different, I suppose.... I went to work in a hotel in Santorini but it wasn't for me, I think I lasted 2 weeks but loved Athens. I come from a small city Dundee, in Scotland.

A good overall advice for northern Europeans is to plan their visit to Greece during April-May and September-November, especially if they plan to do a lot of walking/hiking. The sea is very warm until November or December if they want to swim.

@@tedn6855 in the Ionian Sea or Eastern Aegean the water currents are cold most of the year. The sea needs to be refreshing; it is not a hottub. It is not North Sea cold or Finnish lake cold.

Good video, well said. Get up early in the morning for your morning swim or walk. Around noon gets too hot. Head back to your place. Take your siesta until around 7:30 PM then go out for the evening until two or three in the morning. Party on or what the Greeks would say Σπαστα ολα

I remember it was 50 degrees, or very close, and depended on the locals for temperature updates in the village of Mirtos along from Ierapetra, in July 1987 in Crete - and it was torture! I was a lot younger and it was a very intense heat - never to be repeated, hopefully!! FF to 1998 when I went to Athens and stayed a few years and even snow fell in Kifissia, the last stop on the metro line from Piraeus.

Yes, i was there that yr in July 1987 b4 we went to Greece we were in Montreal Canada stayed for 2weeks in May, then headed to Greece, boy, wasn't it Hot, lots of old ppl died, it was sad😢 my Aunty lives in Athens Glyfada 4 story apartment she lives at the top 4th level, the floors are all Marble inside & outside on all levels, at nite we couldn't sleep our beds they were like on 🔥 everything you touched was hot boiling, we slepty out on the marble balcony & that was hot as well 😢 the temperature at nite was 34, 35 degrees, we struggled to keep cool it was impossible I'll never forget that 🥵. I went to Greece in 2022 on the 16th of September till November, when we landed it was Hot, they just came out of Summer, i went to Kifissia in November to visit my cousin there.🇬🇷💙🩵🧿

As a young child in Cyprus 35 Celsius was not at all unusual we had to stay out of the sun my mother constantly reminded us to have a sleep, and rest. Meals were taken late in the evening 8 to 9 pm. Only foreign visitors wandered around looking red! Great advice there Daniel.

Great advice for travelers to this breathtaking country! We did a cruise in August of last year and spent 3 days in and around Athens beforehand. We went out early in the day, then rested then out again in the evenings for the most part. All your suggestions are Spot On! Thanks for all the great videos!

Здравейте, и в България страдаме от същата сахарска вълна, която продължава повече от две седмици. Днес температурата беше около 38 градуса, но се усеща по-висока. Мога да си позвола да остана вкъщи без да излизам, много течности, лека храна и на климатик. Разходките навън са непоносими, защото бетона в града излъчва още по-голяма горещина. За съжаление, прогнозата за времето остава същата и следващите 14 дни. Поздрави от Пловдив. Била съм в Нафплио, който много ми хареса със своята атмосфера.

Greece is your home now. You know what is essential to do to follow the Mediterranean climate routine. As you notice, life in Greece is affected a lot by the climate conditions and the life rhythms are different during the seasons. For example, summers are more relaxing because of the climate and not because Greeks are τεμπέλης. I really enjoy your videos and I adore your perspective / the way you approach the Greek life style. It depends what place of Greece you will visit.. Octomber/November you might not see snow at all..P.e last summer i was going for a swim until 10 of Octomber...

these are some pieces of advice that tourists very rarely get to know. As a Greek, i'd advise people to come and visit my country from September to early June. Summer is becoming a no-go zone. September is a much much better time to enjoy the islands and the sea: Not crowded, way more tolerable temperatures, sea is still warm, cool nights.

People from countries who are not used to the weather DO NOT RISK IT. I repeat DO NOT RISK it. The sun BURNS here in the summer. People have LITERALLY DIED by not being careful. Don't risk turning your holidays into a nightmare.

As a Greek American , we all know the best time to visit Greece, if at all possible, if kids and school vacations aren’t a considerstion, is in September. The seas are atill very warm from the hot months of Summer, crowds are somewhat thinning out, and it’s easier to get a table at popular restaurants. Heat waves are global in June due to climate change. We have a pretty good week of heat now in New York.

This sounds very like a Queensland (Australia) summer. People do die, others get heat stroke that requires hospitalisation. Extreme heat is no joke.

I am watching from Larisa! So when i go on vacation in August i don't use sunblock! i usually stay in the shadows for the first,second day.I expose my self in the sun, get a mild burn and then i am good to go....No sunblock or hat whatsoever!That's something most Greeks do and we get a good tun from the summer! By the way i am going to the sea at 2-3 o'clock where the sun burns the most.Only old people go for a swim in 10 in the morning and families with small children go after 6 in the afternoon!

Only dogs and the English go out in greece between 2-5pm. To the tourists: you must adjust/acclimate to the Greek schedule because you may end up getting a heat stroke/possibly dying. This means taking it easy between 2-5pm. Oh, and please stop trying to eat a steak at 5pm when it is 40 Celsius (102 Fahrenheit). I feel like throwing up just seeing that. Eat at night like the locals. It’s not as hot and you’ll enjoy yourself.

I did not know the emergency number here was 112! Efharisto! As an Anglo I walk around in a white, broad brimmed hat. I know I look different but it is better than getting (another) skin cancer. And it has saved me several times. Here on Syros Island, we seem to be blessed with much lower maximums - perhaps as much as 7 degrees cooler. But I notice that the minimums are very high - like 22. I had one night in an Airbnb recently that has no air-conditioning, and when I entered the windows had been left open all day. So no sleep that night. It seems that air conditioning is a must these days. When Lee Kuan Yew took control in Singapore, the first thing he did was get air conditioning for the Civil Service - a massive productivity benefit.

Great advice. Personally, I prefer to travel to the Mediterranean in the spring or late September/October as the weather is pleasant and still warm. I traveled to Italy in 1989 at the end of July and stayed for 3 weeks. It is way too hot during July and August months. Great videos!

I got back from a trip to Greece 2 weeks ago and was fortunate to miss the heat wave. Sorry people are dealing with this in June. I saw that they shut down the Parthenon at 1 point due to the heat. Everyone take care and be safe 🥵

When i was growing up in Greece in the 90s i remember times we would see old people (mostly tourists) have a heart attack on the beach, some would even drown. It wasnt a common thing to witness but it wasnt uncommon either. Sometimes i would open the door to go outside and it would feel like when you open the oven door to check on the food, that heat smack on my face is unforgettable.

When i was growing up in Greece in the 70s there were no heat waves. Summer temperature was 28 - 30 Centigrades. extreme heat was 34. August evenings were chill and we used to wear a light jacket "ζακετα".

Also, avoid sunbathing for more than ten minutes (even with a a high protection sun screen lotion). I am greek -which means I am used to very warm summers - and still I cannot stay away from the umbrella for more than ten minutes. I am schocked to watch tourists take a nap under the sun at noon!

Ireland but we are coming to Crete soon. How do us Northern Europeans cope with such heat? We only ever get up to 25 Degrees max and rarely that!! We are not used to ot at all. I guess after a while you would acclimatize?

Hello to all! Summer has been always hot in Greece! Media makes it more dramatic, and this summer was no more than 38-40 in Athens, so not really a record compared to 44-47. Enjoy summer, drink water and smile!
