True, BUT, I do believe that one must make an effort to pronounce as best and as close as possible. Nowadays, students and teachers alike do not strive for a good pronunciation. When I was learning English PRONUNCIATION was an important part of learning the language. After all, it does make communication easier..... Spanish is ultimately derived from Latin, which is an Indo-European language like Greek, the similarities at least in the accents are because of that. However modern Greek is not the same as Classical or even medieval Greek, which probably sounded nothing like modern Spanish.
@Hamitic_Race
@Hamitic_Race 3 жыл бұрын
@Amy Paps Germanic is an Indo-European branch, and it does not derive from Latin, that's totally incorrect. Latin as an Italic language that borrowed a lot from Greek. Spanish is just one of several Romance languages that evolved from vulgar Latin, so of course some features of the Greek language remained.

I love to hear people speaking with an accent. It is so wonderful that people try to learn another language to be able to communicate and better understand each other. I could easily understand each of the speakers in this video and I applaud their efforts. Although we would all like to speak other languages without an accent, pass as a native, we need to be kind to one another and listen carefully and with patience when someone is speaking a language that is not their own.

Γεια σας παιδιά! I just discovered Easy Greek and I'm hooked! I'm not going to comment in Greek yet but … Greek pronunciation of English is funny and sweet! I was once told by a clerk in a tourist agency that I sounded Norwegian (which I am) when I spoke English. I was a bit offended by that comment, but yes, of course I do to some degree … He was a bit posh though, with very correct English pronunciation and would reply in English when I spoke Greek to him. Mostly though it's been very well received when I speak Greek even though it's only a few words, and that is so heartwarming and motivating! I get the same warm feeling from these videos of yours. I do try to speak Greek as a Greek though, I also sing Greek songs so pronuciation is important to me, and oftentimes people think I'm Greek until I reveal that I really can't say that much 😅 (Αλλά σιγά, σιγά …)

@@Booklover-coffeelover My pronunciation is good both in English and Greek, I've been fluent in English for many many years, but you're right, pronunciation also requires practice and also I think good listening skills. What I meant is that I, being Norwegian, of course have a slight Norwegian accent, and because the clerk had encountered many Norwegian tourists he commented that I sounded Norwegian … I've actually been complimented on my English by several native speakers (and he himself was Greek), so I felt that that was a bit rude/stuck up when he also refused to speak Greek with me. His English pronunciation was very elaborate, you might say. Thankfully he's an exception to the rule when it comes to how Greeks treat foreigners trying to speak their language. Velkommen til Norge (after the restrictions are lifted of course …) 😊

True! I noticed it too but couldn't find a language-related connection. Many Spanish speakers pronounce 'world' as 'worl'', whereas its more common for Greek speakers to actually pronounce that final -d. Great video. I loved Marilena, her accent reminds me most of my aunt Stella's. My aunt came from Lesvos when she was around seventeen. My family enjoys my imitation of her accent and it makes her laugh. Things that I stress when imitating her is that if she said "her" she would have a slight roll (trill) on the "r." She also tends to not pronounce two t's together so "little" becomes "lilla" ("Would you like a lilla cake?"). The other strong point in her accent is that she tends to end most sentences with an upward inflection - as if she is asking a question. So, "Hello (which she says, Eh-low) Kristen, this is auntie Stella" can sound like she is unsure of who both of us are 😆

Okay, well I am Helline (Greek) too so I personally believe that when you speak a language, the accent is a very serious matter in order to speak it right but nobody can blame someone who speaks with a specific accent because the brain wants what it wants and it's okay, it's a trait that we are from another country and we tried to learn a language and we succeeded in some point to go this far. Actually, it's applaudable! Yuppie! PS. I enjoyed the video and I sent it to my English prof. Can't wait for his reaction! I am sure it will be as enjoyable as it was to me. Great work everybody.
