My wife has recently pieced together 4 of the original modulars including; Cafe Corner, Market Street, Fire Brigade and the Town Hall. She managed to obtain all of the correct bricks and Minifigures and period correct windows, doors etc., It wasn’t an easy task but, they look magnificent. The only modular we don’t own is The Green Grocer. That’s only because the modified Green 2x1 brick are $7 USD each and you need 56. I like the idea of recreating it using alternative LEGO elements. But, it won’t be “original” which she’s trying to achieve. Nevertheless, I really like what you’ve done! 👍👍

Hi! Thank you! I totally understand her option. I too considered assembling the original Modulars. At the time I did some math and realized I couldn't afford it, or it would be an endeavor for several years, with countless hours searching for parts in Bricklink stores and managing orders. It was not a pleasing perspective for me, I prefer to design MOCs and love the "engineering" of trying to find a solution to replicate something with the currently available pieces. During that evaluation I also noticed that some of these Modulars had no interior or had some details that bothered me, and I wanted to "fix". So my decision was to go this path of recreation, at the expense of not being purist, but big kudos to your wife for being able to recreate 4 original Modulars, that is a huge challenge!

I can't wait for the town hall one you do because that is the one modular. I still feel my city is missing. I might have missed the brick bank as well, but I am nearly done with my moc bank after starting it a year ago. $20 in parts left, and I will have it done.

@JRodonBricks I have a video going over it on my KZbin channel. My plan is to finish it by Christmas. I have the interior walls up on both floors. I just need to decide how to do the building next to the bank and fill out the offices on the 2nd level and finish the roof, and it will be done.

@jrod - great work! I was wondering about your shelves in the background. What type are those and why were they chosen? They look great and seem to be dust free and have lots of space while not restricting view of the models much.

Hi! Thank you so much! They are IKEA DETOLF glass cabinets. What you see in the background are three of them built side by side. Honestly I can only recommend them if you have experienced people assembling them. Telling the story shortly: - I bought one and had a bunch of trouble assembling it with my dad (and we have built a bunch of IKEA furniture over the years). The door would never close perfectly. - Decided to bought another with assemblage included, to learn , and the team that came was nice enough to also fix the first one. Those are the three you can see and that I have for the last 4 years. - Bought a 4th one last year that my dad and I assembled because we had saw the other ones being assembled. It looked good and worked perfectly. - A few months ago one of the glasses of that 4th one just shattered out of nowhere when nobody was home. It may have been a defect in the glass, but it may also have been the fact that it wasn't assembled by professionals. And I have seen online other stories of glasses in the IKEA DETOLF glass cabinets just shattering. Also, I have the idea they aren't sold anymore. Now you have IKEA BLALIDEN glass shelves. I have seen comments that they are of higher quality, but I haven't any yet. I have in my plans to buy one to replace the one that broke, but I haven't because I'm planning more changes in the attic, and I will buy everything together and pay for them to assemble the BLALIDEN Glass shelve.
