This is a classic example of one of those simple songs on paper but that actually requires a whole different level of ability to try and actually nail the groove and get it swinging like the great man himself and the band did, Melting Pot is a fabulous track also. Great lesson beautifully delivered as always Mike 👍

I was a wee lad of ten when this Green Onions hit the airwaves and I was smitten. I picked up the guitar and never looked back. Fast forward 60 years and I get carpel tunnel syndrome in my fret hand, so I pick up a beginners Yamaha midi keyboard, Hammond B-3X software and Worlde midi controller with 9 faders and again never looked back. This is when I seriously looked at you, Monaco and few others online and began learn by ear as I did on the guitar. I love this. The B-3 sound is fantastic and you have a great command of it and an outstanding teaching method. Oh, and being a father of 5 ;) I love your dad jokes lol. Thank you sir for inspiration!

Mike, you're the best. I first started playing this song when I was about 10/11 years old on my free casio keyboard. Booker T was such an influence to me when I started playing. You might laugh, I remember recording myself playing the organ part on a cassette, then playing Steve Croppers part on a $10 guitar plugged into a stereo console I modified. I'm so lucky to now, to have a Hammond/Leslie and still enjoy playing this tune as much as I did then!

Thanks Mike to this short tutorial, I have being working on it ,where I have also the notes writing, a confirmation of your video , it's pretty simple but at the same time needed a good coordination. Because I play pedal, I'm working on that too.

@@UniverseofKeys can't play bass lines, so we'll as pianist do with left hand, comping ok ,and those for this Green onions ,ok, still have to incorporate my foot Bass line, that's it. Any ideas?, would be very grateful, thanks, and cheers.

It's ok to not play at all with your left hand. Alternatively hold chords with the left and push the drawbars in so the volume is lower and the right hand is featured. :)

I really like this song, and I've never gotten it from sheet music. This made the riff very clear, thank you.

Great explanation 😀 I may have the chance to play this for a one time gig. And then I want to do it right instead of guessing what I think it is. And yes, never underestimate a “simple” song !

There’s actually a video of Booker T Jones teaching how to play it for keyboard magazine. Only a terrible quality version exists on KZbin because copyright. I have an unadulterated version somewhere on a hard drive. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5ywgoyYecSkjLcfeature=shared

This is the only tune I can play on my Hammond. Still take figure how to keep the left hand going while the single note solo lead takes over. Guess I’m too old.

I don’t believe Booker T plays the left hand during the solo. So you are all good ;).
