SOL outdoors makes a mylar sheet that is quiet, resists tears and is inexpensive. I use mine like yours but with a poncho liner, that I safety pinned together in key areas. I also put a long zipper for a neck opening in the liner, and a slit in the mylar. Every where it is safety pinned as well as the neck opening I reinforced with clear packaging tape. The liner and mylar sheet can be used alone or mated with a poncho. This gives me a tarp, rain coat, thermal layer and sleep bag all in one. Or it can be used as an under quilt for a hammock. With extra clothing I have used this system down to 30F for years in the mountains of Virginia in the States. Which is hot during the day and cold at night in the Summertime, and even colder the other 3 seasons. I typically place the mylar against me and the insulation on the outside. I find less body heat due to the radiation is lost to the conduction of the outside air against the back side of the mylar because the liner acts to slow down the transfer. In that configuration it can radiate heat of a campfire, or of the sun on snow with thin plastic over it like a bubble, like Mors Kohanski super shelter. The mylar can also be reversed against the liner to be a shade and heat barrier from the sun. If no rain or a chance of some rain you can leave the the poncho at home, as the mylar is a water barrier. I make the neck opening slit in the mylar just big enough to allow my head to pass. There is a better poncho liner made by Wiggys.com that will keep you warm even if wet. I’ve used their sleeping bags for years and his boot liner socks. The socks are the best kit I’ve ever used with rubber boots. You wear them against your feet. As they don’t absorb moisture you never need to take them off. From boot to bag to boot in winter. No more cold feet in frozen boots or in the sleep bag. Luv your channel.

I was thinking about this yesterday and started making lists. Great Videos, some things I had not thought of. Too many people build kits and they duplicate items with each kit. I believe your on person edc is level one, Level two is a bag (your backpack) that you leave close to you. (work locker or under your desk or trunk of car if you park close to work) level three is a get home bag, taking it up a notch if disaster happens and you need to walk home left in your trunk, Then a 72 hour kit (better make it a week or month) things that won't leave your car but if you have to leave home in the middle of the night will keep you comfortable and alive for an extended time and help rebuild your life if your home is destroyed. each kit adds to the next, each is part of the next bigger kit.

Some good ideas and tips 👍🏻. Worth cheching before you buy one of those bottles with a compass that it actually works. I bought a cheap one and the spring in it for the flip lid affects the compass, so which ever way i turned was always North 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣.

👍👍👍 .. excellent. Some handy tips therein to be considered for the tweaking of my personal kit. That cloth map doodah is something worth looking into .. and of course always with a reliable compass (or two 😏). The apparent trend towards absolute (with no Plan B) reliance on electronic devices for navigation has me raising an eyebrow or two. A good one .. thanks for sharing. Take care ..

Great edc kit . I've recently replaced my leatherman surge with a victorinox ranger and a pair of knipex mini combination pliers plus a picquic stubby multi bit screw driver. ( wayyy superior pliers and screwdrivers to ANY MULTI TOOL ) This decision was also based on the fact that the leatherman has locking blades ,meaning it's illegal to carry in the UK. I liked your fabric map idea . My edc pack is a maxpedition falcon 2 and to make it an urban grey man pack I cover it with a generic backpack rain cover .this gives me the best of both worlds ,superbly built ,full molle ,tactical pack plus a non tactical appearance . Great video thanks.

Brilliant as always thanks 👍 working on my bag at the mo helps bits to think about. One addition you.moght like a made a rucksack cover/ setting hammock if you attach the head end to a tree and use a stick at the bottom you can relax and still use your poncho candle set up but I. More comfy

As someone else noted, the Leatherman Wave has locking blades, in the past, you have made quite a point about how you ground the blade of your Bundeswehr knife down to 3 inches, then you swapped it out to your current UK legal one. Personally, I haven’t been stopped and searched by police since I was a teenager, 40 years or so ago, so I take the chance with my Bundeswehr knife. Just surprised at you not mentioning it not being UK legal. Please note, this is not a criticism , I’m just curious, that’s all. Great video by the way, very well thought out!

I wondered how long before I got comments on that point. It's about 45 years since I was stopped and searched last. I am very conscious of the law. I stopped carrying a leatherman on my belt years ago for that reason. I don't really want to discuss my reasoning on an open forum, for reasons I'm sure you would understand.

I'm really suprised you use you helikon tex poncho for shelter quite a bit in your videos when you own a dutch army poncho. The dutch poncho is far superior as a shelter as its absolutely bombproof and has a way better coverage. I've also been using one nebo micros for about 6 months. Brilliant little head torch. Great video.

I'm sure this will raise a few eyebrows, but also a door wedge. A plastic one weighs next to nothing. A door wedge is a force multiplier and used correctly, it's virtually impossible to force without breaking the door. Always take one abroad too, not that I go abroad anymore lol..

All good ideas, would add a woolly hat or light weight balaclava and a packet of tissues ( for nose or bum 😱 in an emergency), but good ideas, food for thought 🤔.

my edc is a torch aa size with lithium battery and a 2 way clip with a very small head strap, a 2 layer victorinox with a saw and a separate victorinox pair of scissors, pen, paper, Ferocian rod, lighter, Tweezers, Whistle, H plasters, small amount of over the counter Medication, glass, power bank, these things should be on my person and some extra things that are small and fit in a pouch. as for a bag in still working on this and would have almost all the things in this video. thanks to Neil I have ordered on of those bags and be modding the bag a little and kiting it out with almost the same items. In combination withe the pry bar, the leatherman wave (with locking blade) uk knife laws what they are, gloves, head torch, cables ties, gaffer tape, I would be worried about being stopped by police and have to explain what I would do with these things and have a good reason for the knife. All things that are useful to have but not legal to carry every day without a good reason. Swap out the leatherman wave for something uk legal and the pry bar to make a good EDC bag.

Into M I have had the "Stanley" penknife box cutter confiscated from me and I was on way home from work dressed in hi viz trousers vest steel toe cap boots carrying strapped to my back pack a hard hat with head torch. The reason I was dressed like that is I work in construction. All bladed articles are taken by police just incase

Unfortunately Leatherman Wave not street legal in UK due to locking blade, unless one has a specific & valid reason to be carrying it on a particular day. General usefulness would not stand up in court. Since learning this I carry a Swiss Army Knife Huntsman. Non-locking blade.

Couple of questions, so your EDC bag is effectively your get home bag? How far is your commute roughly and do you drive it? I built a bag for getting home but I think if there was such a disaster where I was that urgently needing to get home I wouldn't want to stop. I bought a cheap folding bike for the car, I think within 6 hours I could cover the 30 miles apart from in really extreme weather. Great kit there, tried and tested too :)

My actual commute I can walk in 30 minutes. Once at work I may have to travel further afield , 25-30 miles (so a good days walk under good conditions). Everyone's situation will be a little different, so what fits me may not suit everyone. Thanks for commenting.

A very valid comment. The last time I was stopped & searched was 45 years ago, the police did'nt have to have a reason back then. It was probably due to the way I looked and the people I hung around with.
