I think Josh Chan's development has mostly been making it clearer that he is the pits. He starts off sort of bland, and by this point I think the writers are making it really clear that he's actually just immature and self-involved. White Josh is the best though

Cannibal Teddy He has good qualities; he is a nice person and is usually a good friend, but also happens to be incredibly childish and immature in a lot of ways as well. Good guy to hang out with or to cheer you up when you're down, but terrible to be in a relationship with. I agree that the characters are really well developed though; I feel like Hector is the only person that is really one-dimensional.

Hands down this was the best portrayal of an alcoholic. They spent of whole season playing off Greg's behaviors as "heehee, he he's so silly," then drop it on you in S2E1 that no, that's not just a recurring joke, he actually has a problem.

I love how it was handled. They did the same thing with Rebecca's BPD. A lot of people would see her being “crazy” and just be like “Yeah, that’s Rebecca. She’s kinda weird” (especially Josh). But season 3 is when the shoe really drops and everyone realizes “Wait, this isn’t normal”

Something that many shows don’t have the guts to do! I’ve been watching katebushstandean’s crazy ex-spn series and praying for the Dean vid to this song but the closest spn gets to acknowledging deans huge alcohol problem is when sam jokes “can you even get drunk anymore?” it ends up feeling like a wasted moment because he’s obviously self-medicating but the show doesn’t want to go there. I love crazy ex girlfriend bc they always go there, with compassion, understanding, and respect for real people who are in that situation

seriously the character development in this show is incredible. Rebecca is not the classic protagonist, she faces the consequences of her actions. while Paula is the "angel on the shoulder" best friend, her advice is often flawed and her actions can be selfish, and we saw her progress with her marriage. White Josh was at first glance a dumb, weight lifting minor character but has progressed to a CASUALLY gay character (no big reveal, he's just gay) who is probably the most sensible character on the show. Greg is reasonable but cynical and his alcoholism is proving to be a real issue, not just something cooked up for the sake of plot. Josh Chan has pretty much no character development except for what we see through Rebecca's eyes which is important so we remember we have a biased narrator. Darryl's coming out as bisexual is validated and he is in a reasonable sensible relationship. Valencia was clearly in the wrong with the way she treated Chan and their relationship was perceived by all, not just Becs, as being awful. Heather is not just some alternative bitch, she has feelings and understands how other relationships work and brings realness to situations shes in. this show is incredible in SOOOOO many ways, but the character development has to be one of its greatest qualities.

NatCat301 While Valencia was a pretty unpleasant person in many ways and was pretty shitty to Josh, he wasn't exactly all that great either. A lot of her behavior was obviously due to her being in a relationship for 15 YEARS and still no sign of getting married anytime soon, so while her more manipulative and jealous behavior isn't necessarily right or justified, it's certainly understandable. She's not a great person by any means, but she's not a monster, and I think a lot of her personality is the result of some deep seated insecurities (hence the attention seeking behavior, putting down other women, trying to manipulate Josh's life, etc).

Gotta totally disagree about Josh having no character development. It's not really POSITIVE development, but I think we've seen his thoughtlessness and self-centeredness come to light as people force him into situations where he has the opportunity to act well and just skips right past it. I still love him because he's fucking Joshua Felix Chan, but I think he really has evolved from "bland hero" to "commitment-phobic, conflict-averse, blame-deflecting guy with super amazing dance skills." Also, Hector. No real comment, he's just slowly morphing into my favorite person ever.

This may be one of the darkest songs on the show, but also one of the funniest. All of the things they’re describing are terrifying to witness in real life, and just really depressing. Being an alcoholic myself, I show this to all of my AA friends. It puts a light spin on a very serious issue, which makes you think about the disease in a different light. Not to mention his voice is FANTASTIC. Wish I got a singing voice when I sobered up.

This song is one that made me burst into tears of laughter. In such a wonderful coincidence that will never happen to me again, I was watching this episode while catsitting three cats, the friendliest one being named Bruno (I'm not making it up 😂). When this song came on, it sounded so cheerful I picked the cat up and started dancing with him around the kitchen, and when the line about Greg vomiting on his cat Bruno came up, it caught me so off guard I fell down laughing, terrifying the poor cat to death. Poor little Bruno did not expect that!

cxg absolutely nails the juxtaposition of horrible subject matter with upbeat, funny presentation. alcohol addiction (and the range of topics they cover on the show) is so important to talk about openly but it can be difficult and uncomfortable. silly-sounding songs like these can help bridge that gap. i'm seeing other commenters say how it legitimately helped push them to become sober, which is amazing to see :) (and unrelated but santino has such a cute smile)

Now that I've finally decided to go sober, I looked up this song because I realized how true to reality it is. It always rang true, but now it just hits more than ever. Also, it's sung by Santino, so it's the best little relatable jig there could be.
