Alex leonidas benches 4 plates and thinks a lot of naturals can do that .maybe not all, but he's living prove of how far naturals can go and the fact that he is still getting bigger and stronger disproves the 'natural limit theory' that greg and other promotes. greg needs to stop promoting the fallacy that a 2 plate bench is not for everybody.

Well he is right ,just because you follow few top elite naturals who are very strong & look good ,that doesn't mean it's for everybody,but again it seems common to alot of you cause of social media

Alex is cool, but he had to bloat-max out for the 405, very very few naturals will reach 4 plates while retaining aesthetics, Also the only people debating "natural limit" are shilling, the more muscle you gain the harder it becomes to keep adding, that's just how it works my friend. will Alex ever reach the muscularity of a natural Ronnie Coleman? Would Ronnie keep growing until the size he was at the end of his IFBB career? of course not, we are all capped by our genetics.

These responses are just plain moronic. I benched 451 natural but that’s not proof that 50% of the population could bench 405 with 10 yrs training. You’re listing one person out of probably 1000 they can hit 405 natural and using it as proof that 405 is a mid bench. What’s next 50% of the population could slam dunk a basketball if they just practice jumping long enough and then using a famous NBA player who’s under 6 feet tall and saying look he can dunk!! I wish people could practice making better arguments or just use better logic in answering your questions. How can you not understand that bench pressing for five is mine blowing it’s impressive AF!!! I bet 50% would not 315 natty with 10 yrs perfect training. Just like 50% of people who practice sprinting for 10 years or not gonna run a sub 11/ second hundred m dash
@jurlinquist
@jurlinquist Жыл бұрын
@gregdoucette I hit 315 a few years ago weighing 185lbs natural. Unfortunately, as soon as I hit that pr, I fell off the wagon. Now I've been consistently going to the gym for a year and have my diet nailed down. I look at training differently now. More for the health instead of PR's. Much like you promote and preach. And I gotta say, I feel, and look A LOT better than I did when I was trying to move as much weight as possible.

It's insane how much PEDs have distorted what's actually possible naturally. I worked really hard to get 3 plates on the bench. I had a coach who had great genetics for powerlifting. Set state records for his age and weight class. Barely could crack 400lbs at 200+ lbs. bodyweight on PEDs.

Commercial gyms are starting to have less free weight benches, PF eliminated them entirely and has shifted to having all Smith Machines with the only free weights are the dumbbells and kettle bells. Sucks but I actually like that a lot of the fitness influencers that are heavy lifters like Sam Sulek show that you can in fact get those intense and heavy workouts without having your typical open weight bench. It's more accessible for those who either can't afford or don't have access to other gyms.

I think Greg makes a good point about genetics and people messed up expectations that if they copu influencers diets and training they will look like them but at the end of the day this is why it's so important for people to be authentic and have true intentions as to why they train and i think the best thing is to just train to better yourself. Comparison is indeed the thief of joy and social media + peoples weak minds is a recipe for this

Doesn't the 405 argument stands for an lifetime achievement? Obviously teen gym-goers and the ones in their 40s aren't expected to lift those numbers and keep on doing so, but as a dedicated gym member with adequate training and nutrition (natty) I hope that the 405 isn't unrealistic. I said hope cause obviously I'm far from those number as a 20 y/o M

If you’re strength training not bb it’s def possible for some people. But as you know Natty is a different world when it comes to strength. I’m natty at 41 yo. Lifting for years. Had a friend gym partner who was plateaud hard at 315 for orm. He got 315 for orm. He would try 325 and fail for weeks. Our lifting schedules changed a bit and we just did an Occasional workout together. Fast forward about a year and half later he crossed over to peds. He was doing 315 on military shoulder press free weight for 6 to 10 reps. He was hitting 405 on the incline for multiple reps. He told me he went to the dark side. I never did know exactly what he took but whatever it was shit was powerful and made a huge difference. He was plsteaud natty at 30 yo. Peds crushed his plateaus like nothing. But haven’t seen him in years now I’m still in the gym 10 years later still natty. So it makes me Smurk when people say yeah I lifted just as much when I was natty. I’ve seen other real life examples of this too. Let’s face it they’re banned in sports for a reason and if it was just a lil difference people would not risk everything to cheat and use it.

Benching 405 for many people would be possible by proper training AND raising their bodyweight substantiantly. Don't remember the name of this fella, but one finnish bench press specialist said that if you want to press 300kg naturally, it doesnt only require very good genetics, but also raising your bodyweight to, depending your height, probably 150-200 kg. 300kg of course is a lot more than 405 in lbs, but if the average gym goer dedicated their training on powerlifting for, lets say five years AND raised their bodyweight, also gaining fat in the process, to around 315, i reckon a lot more people would bench 405.
@joojotin
@joojotin Жыл бұрын
But who would want to get fat as fuck just for big bench. That is not a trade off that is worth it for 99% of people.
@yeet7929
@yeet7929 Жыл бұрын
@@joojotin While that is true, so is the statement that an average genetic male could achieve a 405 bench naturally with 10 years of training by sacrificing his leanness. So people shouldnt state that an average guy cant achieve a 405 bench naturally, but rather state that but adding in remaining lean.
@joojotin
@joojotin Жыл бұрын
@@yeet7929 Thats true but getting obese for big lifts shouldnt be an option imo unless you are going to compete. Its too unhealthy. Its kind of the the same that you should only use steroids if you want to compete in bodybuilding, extremely unhealthy. You cant get super big muscles without steroids and you cant get super strong without getting fat. After all, lifting weights is healthy lifestyle but both of those defeat the purpose of it being healthy.
@yeet7929
@yeet7929 Жыл бұрын
@@joojotin Yeh i agree but it should still be mentioned when discussing the strenght potential of an average natty gymgoer. Everyone makes their own decisions and the strenght athletes usually drop their bw after stopping competing. But, i would say that there still are levels to being fat, if you're 140kg 190cm and 25% bf natty and do some cardio for your hearth, its not same as being 190cm 125kg 50% bf. Ofc might still wanna drop 30kg when you turn 35 or so for health reasons! 😀
@yeet7929
@yeet7929 Жыл бұрын
And also, even natural bodybuilders drop to unhealthily low bodyfat levels (for competing or just even for fun) so its not like bodybuilding in itself is healthy. If wanting to maximize health, one should probably go to the gym 3 times a week, run for a few days and do some yoga or something to keep the body flexible.

Hi greg, for someone getting back into the gym from being overweight, would you recommend doing a full body workout every time i go to the gym, or would a bro split be just a beneficial?
@Jay-js5ik
@Jay-js5ik Жыл бұрын
I know you didn’t ask for my advice but imma give it to you anyway. Lol I wouldn’t recommend a full body workout for a beginner or someone getting back into the gym after a long lay off. Find some sort of split (there are a ton of free programs) with a few rest days here and there. You don’t need to rush getting back into it and go from zero to one hundred. Take your time and enjoy seeing the results. Good luck.

@joojotin
@joojotin Жыл бұрын
Ignore the comments above, clueless people. Fullbody or upperlower is way better than bro split for someone getting back into the gym. You will get faster results the more frequently you train if you can recover. When more advanced it tends to not matter what split you use, at least for muscle growth. Just start with lower volume higher frequency and you will be better of for a long time until recovery becomes issue.

I used the Smith machine for incline for the first time and the chest pump was great i can see why people use it

The pump I get from Smith machines is amazing I use it for Incline and shoulder press I'm glad I got over my skepticism of it

That’s all I use for barbell chest exercises. I like using a slightly closer grip and really stretch at the bottom and as I push the weight up I squeeze my elbows together. The pump is nuts and I’ve actually been able build a bit of a shelf on my upper chest and I attribute these to that.

@@msstry1 If used correctly the smith machine is great. I only squat in the smith machine now because of knee issues and my legs have never been bigger and I don’t have to go nearly as heavy because I can put my feet forward and really focus on my quads. You simply can’t do the same type of movements with a traditional squat.
