you probably wont see this Greg, but i have been is the same boat as this kid. i have been lifting for 6 years! and it wasnt until this year my 6TH! that i have been seeing great progress. mostly due to the fact i didnt have the knowledge i do now. and i didnt eat the way i do now. consistency and hardwork truly pay off. although i wish i started seeing results from the beginning but im glad im at lease seeing them!

We all have different starting points too that will influence our progress. Most all my childhood I was sedentary and overweight. Decided to make a change around age 22. Now approaching mid 30s I’ve finally developed a physique I’m proud of. Took a long time, did things ineffectively for many of those years, but in the end I’ve learned much and I made it happen. Don’t give up, keep learning, experiment, enjoy the process and just keep in mind all the other positives that come along with lifting that extend beyond physique.

I can relate to the one who doesn't look like you add muscle. I've been working out consistently since I was 22, I'm 37 now. But my body doesn't really show it like a body builder. I've been weighing about 150 lbs for years and about 15% body fat, but I do get stronger every year. So to me, being fit and healthy with strength is the goal, not the look. Granted I'm a soccer player, but I do push harder than last time each year.

I can drop weight pretty easy, I can add muscle quite easily, but if i slip up on diet or training then I can gain fat awfully easy to! It's a double edged sword for me! You just have to find what works for you! Diet wise training wise!
@gustavhaggendal7492
@gustavhaggendal7492 10 ай бұрын
Adding strength while maintaining weight is never bad. You probably need way more volume than what youhave used up until now to see any significant changes and that would absolutely interfere with your recovery from soccer. As a 29 year old who practice a lot of muay thai alongside lifting, I can absolutely relate. If I don't strictly manage fatigue and choose really efficient exercises I either get no gains or get injured very easily. Currently doing 3 moderately hard full body gym sessions a week and it gets me pretty good results.

I started the gym as it was suggested as a good place to go for mental health after years of battling depression, began losing weight(20kg) even though i went to gain muscle and feel better, after around a year i decided to go to the doc cause no matter how many calories i ate i couldnt gain weight just kept losing it. i was doing everything right eating-sleeping-progressive overload etc etc, turns out i had extremely low test (bearing in mind i had been suffering from depression for about 6 years at this point as well which has gotten extremely severe). the minute my doc put me on test which is just gel i put on everyday my entire life changed, no longer depressed and i started gaining weight. the gym became my life, my therapy and turned out to be the savior of my life. ive been on test for almost 1 year now and gained 5kg muscle might not sound like a lot compared to these 'transformations' but i went from hating myself after losing all that weight(20kg) and feeling like a stick to now people actually say you must go gym lol. morale of story is stop looking at influencers stop comparing to others, you go to the gym for yourself. start small not everyone can just go to eating clean and following regimeted training routine 1 step at a time, you WILL get there and if you are doing everything right then go see the doc i almost gave up the gym and it was pretty much my last ditch attempt of life and im still here today the happiest i have ever been in life in my mid 30's

As you lift more your body becomes more efficient..like me when I started I was overweight probably had more estrogen than I should and testosterone was not low but less..so now I have more testosterone and less estrogen and the time put in give strength to ligaments joints and tendons so I can go harder than last time...stamina also..building more muscle than when I started..that's why newbie gains overrated

I think its easy to go to the gym for a year and not get many gains if you forget to use progressive overload. Thats essentially what I did and I didnt even realize it until I compared my progress pictures 12 months apart and I looked exactly the same. It was really disheartening but I just turned it into a drive to get back in the gym and really step up my training. Now I realize I was going easy on myself the whole time and not training harder than last time.

Had a similar outcome, my first year training I just got super lean put on a tad bit of muscle, year 2 I put on much more than year 1, year 3 I’ve put on the most and starting my first bulk, all depends on whether you have been training properly and your diet. Yet it’d be great to be bigger currently, fuck I love the gains coming over time and can’t complain

Bro looks 43 wtf. Bro took train your muscles to failure too seriously and included the heart. I have a lot of insecurities about my body image but I just don’t understand why anyone wants to destroy their body just for attention. What does money fame matter if you’re are going to drop dead without reaching 50? He’s literally 2 years older than so I can relate to everything he going through as a young adult but I can’t imagine butchering my health for money or girls. Idk why he’s doing it but it’s def out of insecurity. And I think we have become too supportive of this type of behavior by excuses drug use by saying they are doing it out insecurities. This acceptance of drug use is adding to young adult and people even younger using steroids. Yes at the end of the day it’s personal accountability but ignoring that this isn’t adding is the problem.

I'd been working out at home with my dad's equipment and bodyweight from about 13, and I started occasionally using the school gym from 14 - but tried to go when it wasn't full of jocks, which was rarely. When I was 18-20 at college, I went to the gym regularly (OK, not as often as I should, and I didn't really know what I was doing, and my diet wasn't exactly dialled in, but I tried!). I was 6"2, 160lbs. And nothing I did could move the needle. I had zero visible muscle. Then when my brother hit 13, he started working out a bit, like I had. He instantly had significant well-defined muscle tone, and looked 10x better than I ever could - and he was a much later developer than me, and had barely even hit puberty. I gave up and decided that working out wasn't for me. 13 years later, working long hours, drinking heavily, and never doing any exercise, I looked horrible, and I was 225lbs. I decided I needed to do something. I realised that I'd never look like Thor, but I didn't need to. So I cut out alcohol, started eating healthily, and started exercising (but not working out). I got back down to 160lbs - but without muscle tone, I didn't look much better than I had at 200lbs. So I started working out, added more protein to my diet, and got up to 170lbs, still lean. That full transformation took about 5 years. I still don't look like Thor, but I'm happy with how I look, and I maintain a healthy weight. Gaining any muscle takes me a long time and a lot of effort, but I'm happy with where I am, and I keep trying to make progress each day.

For me, I am not losing weight currently, although I would need to. Thats a real bummer, BUT I am able to bench harder than last time, making progress. Life feels so much easier, lifting heavy stuff, no problem, carrying groceries, hiking, riding a bicycle etc. Is no problem now, I am still 250 pounds, but I also took on a lot of muscle in the last year. I think my genetics are not bad at least, I take on muscle quickly, but I have and always had issues keeping the fat down. But, learning harder than last time how to diet! I think I am on a good way :) collecting data, knowledge and how to apply both. Keep your heads up people, Fitness, Gym Life, Lifting is not only about looks, but also about your general life. If you don't put on visible muscle or like me really struggle to cut the bacon, maybe it is easier than last time to carry the groceries, to play with your kids or friends, to hike or run through the forest. That is worth it, worth the work. I also do not see the results I want, but I feel them, every day :)

@_official-GregDoucette- sorry for the late reply coach Greg, it takes a noob a few times of watching the video to give a decent response. Ill stand by my usual stance. A bit of context i used to lift in my 20s stopped and now been lifting a year in my 40s different ball game at this age im finding out. Mate weather your natty or not they were all putting in effort to look fantastic i gotta take my hat off to all of them. Ive never done PEDS i have chrones and a few health problems i dont think it would be wise for me to do so. I don't judge because the goal is the same for me get as jacked as my body will allow me which in reality is probably not much but it doesnt stop me from trying. As far as the video goes mate i can't disagree with anything youve said you are coach Greg after all you know you're stuff, who am i to argue im a noob. For what its worth im pretty sure you are trying to look after the younger generation and for me to say otherwise would just be BS. Sorry if its not a healthy debate but i havent disagreed with anything you've said.

IMHO most guys at the gym don’t seem to change much month to month, but they still gradually improve their lifts and personal bests. Coach Greg giving us realistic expectations.

Only person I saw change much quickly was a girl who turned out to have an ED, and she got slower and weaker over time.

I disagree with that you said that people who train for 5 years many don’t even look like they even lift. If you actually come consistently and don’t train like a grandma, if people cannot tell by your arms, back, chest or shoulders that you workout, then you’re like bottom 5% of genetics. I trained for 6 years and i went from 57kg lean to 80 kg almost as lean, and people ask me if im on the sauce.

Hello Greg, I’m a big fan for a while now. Currently 155 lbs lean 5’5, a manlet, I was 130 Senior Year and just wondering if my height gives me an advantage, also have a small waist surprisingly.

You gotta appreciate every little thing. If you're not looking better, are you getting stronger? That's a win. I work out because it makes me feel better, even if I'm not getting much bigger or stronger.
