Accuracy of cast airgun slugs - part 1 (.22 for Huben K1 and other high power PCPs)

This video shows accuracy of the .22 slugs made with version 2 MP mold (5.54 mm equivalent) in Huben K1 V1 and V2.

Hello Gregor.... I hear you mention that there are few small changes from version 2 to version 4. I just received my Huben gen 5 yesterday. Is there anyplace I can go to read the changes between versions that you know of? Thank you for all the work you put into this gun. I can honestly say I would have taken a pass on it if it hadn't been for your videos. As of right now I only fired a few pellets (JSB beast) to sight in a scope. I look forward to putting this rifle through its paces. I also wanted to ask from a person that is not wanting the hassle of casting my own bullets is there way to purchase your bullets anywhere. I have Huben bullets and NSA bullets designed for the Huben along with JSB beast, monster redisigned and jumbo heavy, but would love to test your bullets as well. Thanks, Greg

Hi. Sorry, but I am not selling my slugs. My slugs perform about the same as Huben slugs, not much difference there. I would not know where you could find the list of changes form 2nd generation on. I probably know about most of them but they are minor and only important when ordering parts and not that much in functionality... Your pellet / slug selection is appropriate.

Unfortunately, I cannot get good accuracy with swagged slugs. The accuracy would be great but every once in a while, the slug is unstable...

So the answer is: the cast slugs are more accurate than swagged in both K1s I own. I do use swagged slugs but not in K1, I use them in Wolverine with custom barrel...

Hi sir What is Best of the huben k1 versions. You have the version 1 with custom Barrel. Is that better than the version 4 ?

What you have is the best combination for shooting 5,54 slugs. I get the best results with my K1 V1 with custom barrel. This is simply due to the fact the custom barrel is not choked and is optimized for slugs, while all other stock barrels have a choke to make them more universal...

You can go through my videos. You can try casting them with MP molds mold but I have not tested them in .22 2020 version yet. You can also purchase slug form Altaros

Hi Gregor Do you shoot slugs just after casting Or you do something to them before shooting? My casted slugs are not accurate at all, giving me 3 inch group at 50 meters

That depends on the slug. Some are sized, some not, some a lube with silicon spray some not... In any case, the whole procedure is a form of art and everything has to be right to get good accuracy. 3 inch at 50 meters does seem to be a little extreme even if the slug are not well made so maybe some inspection needs to be made to the gun and the barrel...

Will your slugs , or do you know of any slugs that will shoot good out of the Vulcan 2 air rifle ?

Generally, these slugs are designed for regular PCP, so they should work in Vulcan (I did not test them in vulcan though). Also important is what I mentioned in the first video, the gun needs to be powerful enough and you have to cast them of almost pure lead to be able to feed them in the chamber... No cast slugs will be more accurate than high quality pellets but you do get an advantage of high BC so at long ranges, you will see their advantage...

With 48 grains, your Cricket will reach 800 fps approx. Around 90 Joules.

All Hatsan barrels are choked. 5,52 will be a better option but you will have problems achieving high enough power... So I would not recommend it. the slug is about 10,7 mm long.

They are much more accurate at longer range because unlike Beasts, the slugs are stable. Unlike JSB, these have constant 1-2 MoA accuracy at any range. This answer is based in using those slugs and pellets in K1 of course...

@@tkiphone1462 Both work with about the same accuracy, 5.55 will be hard to load if you do not size them. If you do intend to size them, then 5.55 will give you a bit more options to experiment.

hi gregor, I have a huben k1, I have a problem, sometimes I shot normally without any problem and sometimes it happens to me to shoot a few shots and the air comes completely from the rifle it happens without touching the settings, set at 175 bars, I try to reduce the number of clik 35 to 29 but the problem is a threat, is it a defect of the rifle? or is it a problem of adjustment? help me please gregor

What slugs (weight) are you using and what is the velocity? In any case, I don't thin that there is something wrong, I suggest you increase the pressure and close the power wheel accordingly to retain the slug velocity. I assume you are shooting heavy slugs with high friction and those just need enough pressure to work reliable. Also, are you sure the pressure gauge shows correct pressure?

Yeah, those have quite a lot of friction and you need a slightly higher pressure. I would suggest to set it at about 190 - 200 bars...

what is the groove and bore diameter in the huben .25 barrel? and what is the diameter of the slug for this MP mold for .25 caliber...the rear band diameter??? the huben .25 only accepts 11mm long.

Not sure about .25, but so far, Huben used LW airgun choked barrels. My .25 slug is about 10,9 mm long so they should fit but I will know for sure when I get it...

I mention this a few times before. I shoot over a valley that is covered in thorns and nettles. It is extremely hard to get to the targets and I do so only every once in a while to repaint them... If I would use paper, I would have to set it up every time I go to shoot.

No idea. I have been hearing a lot of good things about NSA but never had the chance to test them. It would be super expensive to order them to Europe. Also, I am not sure that they are a good solution for K1.
