She passed away a few years ago now, but I’ve kept her on as my avatar (we always have at least one cat, for a while we had four PLUS one from round the corner who spent most of his time in our house rather than his)

Hamburg has much to offer for photographers, and it's not always grey, but windy. The wind give many lighting conditions, also cloudy days turns in half an hour to a sunny break, than again cloudy, and so on. Very cool locations on your photowalk, old and new, middle age architecture and modern glas, alternative quarter and luxurious hotel. You are one of my favorite "new hamburgers" in town. 😊

Just the type of locations I would go for Greg, each offering up some unique interest and Im sure the participants will come away with some great images from these locations and the others you are planning into the workshop. Good idea switching lenses over as not everyone will be able to shoot as wide as 12mm so getting an idea of focal lengths for each location means you can add that as additional info for participants before they travel as it then gives them an idea of what to expect or what lenses they might want to consider. I would love to shoot that first location with my 17mm and 24mm tilt shifts with all that vertical goodness to be had.

Mushy skies, mushy water, Greg you have to get over that.😀 I need texture. I am truly amazed at the variety of staircases that you find and they are photographically stunning. It is nice to see that architects are allowed free rein to be creative rather than strictly utilitarian.

lol. Dave those buildings have some sharp edges man, come on now :) Indeed the creativity post war in West Germany is on display in Hamburg, especially from the 60s onward.

Thanks for the tour, gotta like B&W. P.S. get yourself a used Leica, M2 or M3. In my newspaper days long ago I had a M2 plus a SLMot, 4 frames a second, 10 2AA batteries, a beast. Just some trivia, some the best Leica lens were designed in your home province. There's a lot more to that story.

Quality vid Greg. Loving your architecture shots. I was looking at the Sony 12-24 earlier to go with my 16-35. Bolivia next……wow……..jealous
@gregorsnell9 ай бұрын
Manni !! Yeah I got it only for these types of shoots. Interiors, staircases, and architecture. I still use the 16-35 for landscapes. The only landscapes I think the 12-24 f2.8 would be especially good for is astro. It's a unicorn lens and comes with a price to match. That's why I\m still using my Canon 16-35 ;)

@JamesKerwin9 ай бұрын
@ManuelBecker - Istanbul is a place people hit for 2 or 3 days maximum and pass through. And during that time, they all hit the usual tourist places - its fairly normal and was likely a story in many other destinations - however there are 1000s here, without a doubt. You have a couple of crackers in the country as a whole though! :)
