I still find it beautiful that Gregory was driving home at 3am from Boulder, Colorado and he just stopped on the side of the road to write this. It’s pure magic

Improvisation is the true sign of genius. This came out of him without searching, just came to him, like air, like breathing, that inspiration from an unconscious place deep inside us.

I hate that some people didn't have the decency to be quiet. Poor Gregory. His music is so pure and amazing, everyone should listen carefully.

I dont think it gets any better than this. I discovered greggory alan isakov about three years ago. I haven't stopped listening to him since. Out of all his incredible songs I think this one is my absolute favorite. The lyrics make it.

Verse/intro (capo 2) C G am F Chorus am F C G Interlude dm F C G He uses his pinky on the 3rd fret of the high e string during instrumental parts and forefinger on the first fret of high e on the G. Inbetween am and F use your pinky to play the third fret on the low e. Few hammer on using his middle finger on C and F chords. Good luck in working it out!

Funny to see this comment in the thread. I love the poetry and how he writes a song and weaves it all together. But I have also thought, “I want to be able to play guitar like this!” I was given a guitar recently and am learning. Strumming is all I got for now.

I am living in Malang, Indonesia at the moment. I played this song for some people at a cafe. Gave due credit, of course. He was a huge hit. The university students in town really take to his music it seems! i wish it would catch on in my hometown of Milwaukee. But, then again, I guess it's cool he's a bit of hidden gem, eh?

"Well its 3 a.m again, like it always seems to be Drivin' northbound, drivin' homeward, drivin' wind is drivin' me And it just seems so funny that I always end up here Walkin' outside in the storm while looking way up past the tree-line It's been some time Give me darkness when i'm dreaming Give me moonlight when i'm leaving Give me shoes that weren't made for standing Give me tree-line, give me big sky Get me snow-bound, give me rain clouds give me a bed time just sometimes Now you're talkin' in my room, but there ain't nobody here Cuz i've been driving like a trucker, I been burnin' through the gears I've been training like a soldier, i've been burnin' through this sorrow And the only talkin lately is that background radio You were my friend, and I was… " Poetry.

It takes some fingerpicking studying. I'd recommend checking out John Mayer Tabs. He fingerpicks in alot of his songs. The reason I say that is because all his songs are tabbed cuz he's way famous. Then listen to this and see if there are some similarities with certain songs and build upon it and eventually you'll get it. Even if your not the best guitarist you can always strum the chords and sing. Then as you become more skilled work on getting this to sound like the way he plays it

Okay i think i finally figured out most of the song, capo on second, at the start it's C G Am F, mostly, and then when he sings give me darkness when I'm dreaming etc. it's something like Am F C G, and well, it alternates depending on parts of the song, but you know, hope i helped a little
