The Puppet's original intended purpose was to guard the door to be sure kids were safe. So Sun/Moon working in the daycare makes total sense if you feel they are connected to the puppet. Moon even has strings in the lights-out generator scene.

48:44 In regards to Freddy's eye colors, I'm not convinced that the yellow is indicative of control by anyone. It could be explained by Freddy going into "Safe Mode" at the beginning, which you'll note Freddy's eyes are yellow before he even scans Gregory. Which also explains why Freddy is friendly. "Safe Mode" has been a Windows feature forever, notable for minimal driver loading AND for no network access. Which is why Freddy can't connect to the server. If the "virus" that drives the other anamatronics to murder is network distributed, Freddy going into "Safe Mode" would prevent the virus from reaching him, which is why Freddy is your friend. I think the yellow eyes just indicate "Safe Mode" Freddy. Sorry theorists. It could be that simple.

43:42 actually, you are required to get replace Freddy's eyes with Roxy's for EVERY ending including escape and vanny ending. finalizing the eye upgrade is what sets the time to 5:50 am (and opens the doors so you can escape) so it is significant that Freddy's eyes are blue even though they have been replaced. i'm going to put this one in the "game was rushed and details were changed" column though

Here's the thing with sun, he's featured in the mini game with balloon boy. They have to be linked somehow, maybe built the same way, they feel too similar to not be linked together. From a lore perspective sun has too much personality compared to the other animatronics. Notice that he isn't like the other animatronics as they attack Gregory, and he does not. Moon attacks Gregory. Freddy had to glitch to not attack Gregory. All the other animatronics were attacking Gregory, but sun was not. Sun has a bigger role than what we see. I don't know any evidence but if anyone has any that would be great.

Because moon is sun and vice versa, he just looks different when corrupted, and it also means he attacks Gregory just like any of the others. He has a lot of personality to keep really young kids happy and engaged. However I am curious as to why he’s in the ballon boy game, that’s absolutely sus. Also that game’s in his room, and he has snacks and whatever in there and people have said it looks like a kid lives/stays in there, but that place should be inhabited by sun/moon. So how would a child get away with that? Or what’s with all the disassembled security bots in there? He’s definitely an interesting character to explore for sure.

I think that this game had a pretty clear direction when the first trailer came out. Then they delayed it to change things and now there's a large mess of stories that don't seem to line up. I was definitely a bit nervous when Scott announced they were cutting stuff and he made the cake analogy. I decided to trust him on it, but it really does feel like the story suffered from that decision. It becomes so apparent things were just cut. I mean, even in that first trailer, Vanny gives a whole speech about it being an accident and not meaning to hurt Gregory and glitches....and there theres 0 interaction in the game besides her coming after you. I think the cuts in general hurt it a lot. It was still fun to play, but I was definitely disappointed. Hopefully whatever dlc theyre creating rights the wrongs.

To me it felt like you were supposed to dismantle all of the animatronics before 6am(everyone who I've seen play only got 2 of them). It doesn't really make sense to have an entire "boss fight" that you can't save progress after you do it. The ending scenario where you stay at the pizza place feels like it was only meant for the one ending and collecting collectables, not going after a third animatronic.

I know he only mentioned it but I’m so excited to see Matpat’s theory on what happened to Bonnie! I know a lot of people have been saying “oh Monty decommissioned him!” Or “he knew too much so Vanny destroyed him” but nothing about what happened next. My personal theory is that 1. Vanny destroyed him (but not because he knew too much, but) 2. William needed his body (specifically his to continue his trademarked usage of rabbits of course) What solidified it for me was this: I’d always thought it was weird that they so obviously gave burntrap such stereotypical “villain” claws but then it hit me. Monty had a claw upgrade for playing the bass. Bonnie played the bass so he’d have to have claws too. And even more when Monty’s claws are fully revealed they look almost exactly like burntrap’s. (Other things include burntrap has the same body structure, number of toes, etc. And I mean…he literally came out of a glamrock charging station.…) idk it’s just ranting my thoughts :)

One of the other strange things about Sun and Moon is that their game mechanic totally ceases to be once you hit 6:00, which is unlike the rest of the animatronics. Even Monty is crawling after you whenever he can get the chance but, because you no longer hit new hours of the "night" he just goes away. I feel bad for Mat whenever various fandoms go after him for his theories. I don't agree with a lot of them, but at the end of the day it's just fun to do thought experiments and look at "what-if" scenarios even if the games contradict them. I wonder if some of it is just that his theorist persona is, by his own admission, "Chaotic Neutral" and that turns folks off when it's about something that they're passionate about. At any rate, I'm glad he seems to be able to take it in stride for the most part, and only avoids topics when it's clear that the backlash makes it not fun anymore, and with how much effort he puts into his theories it would be sad if he wasn't having fun doing it. Also when it comes to them (Sun and Moon) I feel like they are often referenced, or at least tight parallels are drawn between them and Vanessa in the tapes. What with the clear difference in the ways she talks (brighter/Sun and darker/Moon) and there was even a mention in one of the tapes ( I can’t remember which one exactly) where the therapist even draws a curtain saying “you feel better in the dark right?” Then with the BB video game, I find it weird that that specific one is the one in Afton’s area. And it’s (as far as we can tell) only playable one is in Sun’s room. Also weird that Sun and Moon have shown themselves to be clean freaks, but their own room is a reck? Vanny's trailer lines seem to be her trying to cover for "losing her temper," Sun & Moon have an obvious duality in moods, and the game's story is very strongly believed to have been shuffled around at some point closer to release. So, perhaps, Sun & Moon were characters they originally couldn't find much of a place for despite wanting to, and when the reshuffling came, the two replaced roles Vanny previously would have taken: Friendly in the daycare (Sun), losing her temper (Lights off), and chasing you around anywhere in the Pizzaplex by the hour's end; even capable of finding you through Freddy (Moon). Maybe there's some information out there that easily disproves this train of thought, but I figured it'd be interesting to throw out.

If I remember correctly Matt called the earlier FNAF games made by Scott himself as "less noisy" in terms of assets and placement of said assets, while Security Breach is more on the noisy side due to its inherently large, expansive nature. There's just way too much stuff that seem to lead to nowhere in terms of lore, and the actual lore bits are, as you said, way too spread out. In the past FNAF was more compact but that didn't take away from the complexity of its lore.

43:31 Matpat is remembering this wrong. Freddys' eyes are yellow from the moment you take control of Gregory. The first image of Freddy with yellow eyes is from the start of the game where he is still in pristine condition, not all weathered and deteriorated. It's not Roxy's eyes that make them change to the color yellow. They are like that from the moment you start actually playing the game. Another thing MatPat seems to not realize is that ANY Vanny ending is supposed to happen after 6AM, not before. He glitched the game to get the Normal Vanny Ending depicted in the image at this point. So Freddy would already have Roxy's eyes. Meaning there is a reason the eyes are a different color here, and Mat Pat doing things out of order (because of the glitch of hopping the fence to sequence break the game) has him mixed up on when the Vanny endings are supposed to happen.

If only he didn't have a broken copy of the game, lol. I remember he was getting SO many glitches during his play through that let him walk through a lot of invisible barriers (almost got himself trapped in the daycare at one point, had he not realized it was a glitch).

@@DLxxx He has the same version as everyone else. This game is jusr exremely glitchy and broken. I had a glitch happen when I got into Freddy that put me out of bounds, and teleported me from the Endo Skeleton area, all the way back to the entrance area.. (Still out of bounds) Getting out of and back into Freddy brought me back in bounds, but broke the main stage elevator by putting an invisible barrier around thebottom of the hole where the elevator was supposed to be. Hoping over that wall let me out of there but the cherry on top was going into the upgrade station soft locked the game... forcing me to do everything from my last save over again.

Just so you know, the Vanny option appears at any exit door after seeing the Vanny room through the closed door and triggering the dialogue where Freddy connects Bunny and Vanessa. I definitely agree that putting that trigger on a split path in the main story was a poor decision gameplay wise.

Here’s a fun fact, even doing Fazerblast route, you could of never gotten the Vanny option, if you just skip the actual Fazerblast section and go straight to the office you won’t come across the vent and miss the Vanny thing.

i haven't seen anyone call this out yet somehow, but to me it seems incredibly obvious that sun/moon is mainly used in this narrative as a metaphorical device to show the personality split in the character of vanessa/vanny. What the character is concretely might not matter that much from a narrative perspective. It honestly just seems like it confirms that Vanessa and Vanny are two separate entities within the same body, the one resisting the other, much like sun and moon.

That’s interesting because when I first hear the tapes I thought they were both Vanessa but two separate personalities rather than mat’s idea that one is Gregory. It doesn’t matter that one is childlike. A separate personality is like another person entirely. It also fits with the theme of binary. Two sides. Vanessa/vanny. Even the question in the binary code could be the waking of the second personality to consciousness.

Kinda goes back to what Matt was saying. That fits really well 80% of the way, but then you have to stop to think about the rooftop ending. That image of Vanessa looking out over the roof comes out of nowhere and contradicts so much.

I mean, im pretty sure he knows. I'm pretty sure he's talked about it and made jokes about it before. And while I suppose as a whole its unknown since we weren't given details, Scott said in his post that they were just too ambitious and kept trying to add things and he realized they need to scale it down for else it'd take forever.

@@maysar4159 that makes sense. But now I feel like it’s too scaled down and a bit hard to follow. Like having to go back and forth and the glitches and the map not being that useful…idk it doesn’t feel like a full game somehow.

16:07 I have a theory that sun&moon are the next iteration of the puppet. They have the same difference in design, being more slim and nimble/elastic (don't really know how to say this) compared to other animatronics being bulky, metalic and clumsy. And they also have the same role - watching over children: Sunrise and Moondrop being the daycare attendent and Security Puppet popping out of the box to give preasents and candy AND also protecting kids with that bracelet thingy.
