Sorry there is a mistake in one of the charts at 5:18 - The labels are wrong the first bar is the results from the M3 Pro (14 core GPU) while the second result is from the M3 chip - not the M2 Pro (19 core gpu) The scores are correct, the labels are wrong.

@@jstn_lndy49 let me explain in the simplest way , by the years pass , new versions of softwares come , and they require more ram ( even new macos versions require more ram to operate properly) , apple changed its base models from 4gb to 8gb of ram for this reason , 8GB might be enough now for simple tasks like web browsing and opening documnets but not for long , getting 18 GB or Ram will guarantee you a solid performance for at least next 5 years

I'm upgrading from the 2020 M1 MBP...which i believe is 8 core CPU and 8 core GPU. I use Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro (though, not simultaneously), and edit SLOG from my Sony A7 IV in FCP, with some basic color grading/LUTs. My current machine handles this pretty well, but there are certainly some times where it can struggle a bit. Though the base M3 is impressive, my gut tells me that the MBP with the M3 PRO chip (12 core CPU / 18 core GPU) is the move for me and should be plenty of computer, but the Max is tempting as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I got myself an MacBook Pro M3-pro chip (just the base 11core/14core version). When I use it for light tasks the battery life is amazing. taking notes and browsing during lectures resulted in a 7 hour use time with 86% battery left. I wonder if those 18 hours displayed when you buy the computer is for quiet heady duty work. If I use it for light tasks the battery would last days. right now just using it for light tasks like programming and Matlab occasionally. the future will be more heavy duty 3d modeling and engineering simulating programs. Conclusion. MacBook 14" M3-Pro is a quite amazing machine, I would not take into account the battery life difference between 18 and 22 hours. even this one has more than anyone could utilize. don't buy the base model unless you're on a budget

I think you’re right, if someone just wants some of the features from the MacBook pros, but actually doesn’t do any type of pro workflows consistently, or has no ambitions to do any of those workflows then yes the M3 MacBook Pro makes sense. However, this device has no headroom to grow. You didn’t really show any multitasking and any type of multitasking that includes a combination of certain pro level application and maybe more normal applications, and web browsing completely bottlenecks the a 8 GB of ram. The ram pressure is just way higher when you’re multitasking. And if you’re interested in doing any type of pro application that uses GPU performance like blender, you can actually just crash the software if it’s not the only software that you’re running at at the time. So you know I think that in general, if you’re somewhere in between a pro level user and a normal user, the main question to ask yourself is what task do you plan to be doing with this MacBook Pro That would be considered a pro level application? if it’s just video editing with Final Cut Pro, you’re fine to get just a normal MacBook Pro. However, if you want to use multiple Adobe applications at the same time, potentially, da Vinci, resolve, or blender then you might want to look at M3 pro MacBook Pro. I think at a $200 difference after you upgrade to 16 GB of ram it really becomes a hard sell to not move up to the M3 Pro. I think multiple creators and myself could agree on one thing which is I don’t really think this device should be specked up to the 16 GB, if you need that just go to the M2 Pro or M3 pro MacBook Pro. In the battery life debate I do believe is important, but the battery life issues that the 14 inch M2 MacBook Pro had have been significantly mitigated due to the E core and P core allocation on the M3 Pro MacBook Pro 14 inch. Right now that makes the baseline M3 MacBook Pro have about 20% longer battery life over the M3 pro MacBook Pro. I do not think that that’s insignificant, but I think the real world experience of that extra 20% might not be as noticeable as it seems. Like realistically at the end of the day, that’s the difference between having 8% battery leftover versus 12% battery. What I would actually like to see even though this is a harder test is does the M3 have better standby time then the M3 pro MacBook Pro. Because if the M3 can essentially hold its battery longer while not in use in addition to being able to last longer, that would be a really big shifter for me. However if it’s about the same that 20% difference I think you actually get a good trade for that 20%. You actually get a pro level laptop that’s still last incredibly long time, but I feel like if the M3 is going to be a battery champ vs the M3 Pro it’s gotta be like really good not just slightly better than the M3 pro.

I just bought a 16" i9 because I need to connect 2 external screens, want a big screen and good speakers, and I want to run x64 VMs. For most people, I'd recommend an M1/M2 MacBook Air, and if you need more than one external display, an M1 MBP. I opted for the M3 Pro 16" , why? For me it's the sweet spot between battery life and performance. The M3 Max burns through too much battery for my taste. I do compile code a lot but nowadays the incremental Rust-based compilers are really really efficient and fast.

There shouldn't be too much difference in battery for a given task. M3 Max consumes more, but it finishes faster. The difference is only 2 less E-cores, so shouldn't be that noticeable.

thank you it means so much to know how much fps it can do so i can compare it to previous silicon to see the gains of pro against max, right now i own m1 imac 24 inch with 16gb ram and it struggles to keep with my daily task, and today i made the decision to commit to m3 macbook pro 14.2 inch space black reason being is the cheapest pro laptop to get and it takes me few months to get it from 0, compared to max chip which i want but sadly it cost twice the price of pro meaning in waiting time above a year meeaning that next macs will come out by the time i buy a max, thefore i will just commit to the cheapest pro chip this year and learn the laptop but from your video i love the way it looks and shows great results so im sure i will be happy selling my imac for it, it is still brand new i got it less than half year ago but im sick of white basels and light colour and i was hesitating to get pro because it had only grey and silver, while i do belive i will miss 24 inch display of 4.5k resulution it can be solved in time by getting xdrr apple display of 32 inch which is a 6k display with mini led if i prefer size of display, same goes for external add ons like keyboard mice or bluetooth speakers, which could sound like mac studio zone but it is different, it is very expensive and lacks in every aspect aside from power rest.

@@riley5409 That extra core of M3 Pro doesn't count, because M3 Pro has one less P-core and 2 more E-cores, which cancel each other out, so they both perform about the same. The less GPU cores also doesn't count because each core is faster. You will get 2GB of ram and a more efficient machine with the M3 Pro, so for the same price, of course return the M2 Pro and get the M3 Pro, but if you got a good deal on M2 Pro on discount, then it's not worth the upgrade unless the 2GB of ram means something to you. @andre7184 Value for money, which also translates to a better resell value. The real Pro is a much faster machine with double the cooling, which also makes less noise. Faster SSD, the extra port, 2gb more ram and of course the extra display support. The CPU upgrade alone is worth $200 in the PC world, where there is no Apple tax, so all the other stuff are free. Even if I didn't need all the extra features, which I need all of them, I'd still go for the M3 Pro for $200 more, because I will get most if not all of it back when it's time to resell. If you order it in the new color, you'll get the $200 back in full in a couple of years.
