My battery health is still 93% with 211 charging cycles. Man, this thing goes on for weeks with 2-3 Google Chrome windows ( 10-20 tabs ) each, 2-3 projects on PHPStorm which I never close cause I am testing and developing things, 2-3 windows on WebStorm (JetBrain IDEs are kinda RAM hungry), all the services, Outlook, Postman, One Drive and so many things I never exit while working with Photoshop, Lightroom, Davinci Resolve, just closing the lid and calling it a day. Got 14" M3 Pro (full) this Friday. I ordered BTO rather than get Max immediately (money it wasn't). Why? Because, ironically, efficiency cores. My work (full stack web developer) uses efficiency cores much more than performance cores. Honestly, I think Apple targeted M3 Pro specifically for people like me. People running virtualization a lot, using Docker, many smaller tasks running in background for which efficiency cores absolutely dominates. And it fullsfills exactly that, perfectly.

My workflow means multiple Adobe programs running at the same time, in multiple desktops, with one external screen, plus a wild amount of Chrome browser tabs and windows. Do you think I'd be better off with Pro vs Max because of the efficiency cores?

If someone is reading this and is struggling between which laptop choose, don't hesitate and go for this M3 Pro version, it is hands down the best machine to date (for the price obviously, because you can get a Mac Studio and some extras but the price will triple to like $10,000)

You mentioned the black color and said that you had no problems with it. I've had one of those black Macbook Pros for a while now, and I found a functional problem with the color that I never had on any other laptop: when I go to plug something in, the black of the body and the black inside of the plug-hole are similar enough that I can't see where the plug should go, unless there is bright light on the side of the computer. So I have to insert the plugs by feel. I think that Apple should have designed the cover color to have a color which contrasts with the black of the inside of the plug-holes, at least near the plugs.

Honestly, I've been using the M3 Pro for like 5 months now. First of: I am a PC-guy. If you had told me 5 years ago, that I would actually like a Mac, I would have shrugged it off and continued with my life. And don't get me wrong, for work I've been using Macs for the past 9 years now... It's just, that the Intel ones were awful. Especially the 2019 i9 that I had before, was running hot, bricked itself all the time and generally was not a lot of fun. This little powerhouse on the other hand, makes me consider a Mac for myself in the future. Currently, it doesn't make any sense, as I have the Mac Pro available to me as well for private use. But if I would ever leave the company, I would seriously consider buying one. It's silent, faster than my Desktop PC (a low to mid-tier gaming rig) for video-editing and generally, it's a wonderful little product.

The only thing I would have changed was increasing the ram from 16 to 32. I tried out the M3pro 14 base…. Minimal performance difference, but definitely seemed to have some battery benefitsonly. I ultimately went to the base M3max 14” for the 36 GB RAM and 1TB. Best decision I made. I can see the difference in all my workflows. If you have an M2 machine, keep it until M4 comes out or have money to burn for a higher tier system (ie M2 =>M3pro)

My first impressions, speakers with brutal quality, screen with spectacular quality with mini-LED technology, the chassis is excellent, the battery lasts almost 2 days, it does not heat up, you cannot hear fans in daily use, and best of all, it is A real laptop, unlike the other PC laptops I've had, the battery never lasted very long, the performance was disastrous, they got very hot at idle, and the Mac is the complete opposite.

6:33 You can feel that bandwdith cut in FinalCut/PP/Davinci when exporting the videos. Export takes 20% longer because of that. A straight downgrade and a huge one considering this is a device mainly for video creators. I have no clue why they did that. Why there are 2 GPU cores less, why the CPU has more ecores than pcores. For light task this is a fine laptop but for a more demanding tasks I would grab a Max chip (even the previous gen one). Upgrading the base M3 Pro to 36GB of RAM and 1TB SSD is so damn expensive you might just go straight for the base Max which has 3 more CPU cores and more than double the GPU cores.

If you're powering the MacBook Pro from the display, you should be able to turn it on in clamshell mode just by plugging the thunderbolt cable into it.

I switched out my MacBook Pro M3 Pro for a Mac Studio I got for the same $1799 sale price and would never go back to the MacBook or recommend it over my Mac Studio unless you need the portable form factor. 18gb UM vs 32gb UM is not even a close comparison for me. Just did the 1K thumbs up for this video.

My plan is to upgrade my current MacBook. I'll be thinking about the M3 Pro 14" with 18 GB of unified ram and an 1 TB SSD. I certenly do a lot of Programming with Xcode and also do normal stuff for my University. 18 GB of Ram should be enough right?
@Pulkit__79 ай бұрын
Go with 32 GB, not kidding. I regularly have to to use XCode and Android Studio and have docker, chrome and you know bunch of other stuff, with simulator for both iOS and Android, up. I feel like 32 GB should be base RAM for app developers. I have M2 Pro
@DaviAreias7 ай бұрын
If you get the 32 GB you will have to wait for them to assemble it, they have the 36GB version with 1 TB SSD but it costs 1K more than the 18GB 500MB, I chose the 18GB 500 GB because I think it's better save the difference and just swap for a better version in 3 to 5 years before the SSD dies

Awesome review man! I've been a Windows enjoyer for my entire life pretty much, as I am an avid gamer. I remember I had a white MacBook from like 2009 or 10 when i was in highschool, but i was pretty bummed out that I couldn't play many games on it. Now that I'm older I have other jobs and hobbies in addition to gaming, but I already have my desktop Windows computer for that. Still I like the idea of a solid laptop I can bring everywhere and work on. I switched from Android to iPhone when the 14 series came out and I am still blown away of how well it runs. Haven't had a single issue with it since i got it, while my Androids kept slowing down and bugging out a lot after about 2-3 years. This has convinced me to give the MacBook Pro M3Pro a shot too. I've seen mostly positive reviews across the board and that makes me confident in this choice. I'm gonna go check it out in a store first just in case, but I see myself getting one in the coming week. :D Thanks for the great video!

I agree with all the main points, and don't disagree with anything. I bought the same base model in early December moving up from an M1 Mac Mini, base model but with the 256Gb Drive. That's been the primary point: I don't know if anything still comes with 256 anymore, but for my mix of software development, video production, graphics and 3D work, the machine is 100% fine. So was the Mini, mostly, but the drive was too small. My question was, would the 512 do the job, and it does. I have another 2.5Tb of external SSD storage that is dramatically less fast than the internal drive, but I have enough space inboard to do everything in a current projects folder, and I migrate projects to the externals when their priority for fast performance lowers - making followup edits etc. Even so, the USB-C speeds to the externals is rarely a problem. I did however, buy it in silver; the black just seemed like a pain in the ass, and the silver is classic Mac. And I figure it lowers the chances of being grabbed from a cafe table if there's a black one nearby....

Thank you for the update the amazing editing on your video. I have the same specs as yours, and i don't do any intensive work on the Mac, but I have it connected to a 4k monitor and I have 2 different profiles open of chrome which might have 65+ tab open in total (2 tabs videos). That does stress my ram and I receive a window to start closing some applications. I know this is an edge case and not a lot have a lot of Chrome windows open but thought i would share

Yeah... don't listen to idiots who say leaving it plugged in is bad for it. That's absolute nonsense. Most of the time my main macbook is plugged in. 99.9%. It's battery health is great. Gone are the days of it being bad, manufacturers have fixed that issue with smart charging. Macs don't need to be shut down for sure. I do the same. it's always plugged in and always on. just hit key on keyboard and it wakes up

Really nice video about the real world use of this laptop and what the downgrades mean. One thing I would say though is that the high-end pc bandwidth you highlighted is just between the cpu and its ram. High-end pc gpus also have very high bandwidth to their vram.

Hey Kyle. I’m glad I’m not the only one waking my Mac to find the externals ejected. I was wondering why that kept happening. One of your solutions about having drives connected through a powered dock sounds reasonable, but when I thought about what gets ejected on my end, it’s also my LaCie and OWC RAID drives that have their own power cords. I’ll fiddle with the settings, but for anyone thinking about buying a powered dock, I’m a bit skeptical. I hope it’s a system glitch they will fix in a future OS update.
