WARINGING - According to the plumbing code, you can't turn the vent with a 90 degree fitting below the flood rim which is usually 42 inches like I have in 6:25 section of video. I've seen it done for decades in new and old homes, but this still does not meet plumbing code - 905.4 in the 2021 International Plumbing Code Book. Here's a video with updated information - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6S6h5xmbLeena8

It's a great video; I better understand how things flow with plumbing. I've seen more and more people talking about installing an emergency drain in the bathroom outside the shower area for new homes. We are considering remodeling our upstairs bathroom with a sink, toilet, and bathtub (which will be changed to a shower). Is installing an emergency drain an excellent option, as we might turn our townhouse into a rental property in the future? As you know, Renters are not kind to rental properties. How would you go about installing an emergency drain in a typical bathroom such as ours? Thank you

Could you possibly show a scenario where all the plumbing was along one wall? Kitchen sink to washer dryer to vanity, toilet and shower/bath? Thank you

I put your suggestion on my list.

Horizontal vents have to be 6" above flood level rim. If the window is too big and the vent is too low on the horizontal, it would not be permitted.
@gregvancom5 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing and you are correct, your comment is much appreciated. Now, if I had a dollar for every project built where they drilled through a kitchen window king stud and ran the vent horizontal below the flood rim, I would be very happy. I have to ask, have you ever done any housing tract plumbing?
@CitizenShane5 ай бұрын
@@gregvancomno housing tract work, but mostly service, remodels, occasionally new construction

Can you hook those vents together in the attic to minimize roof penetrations?
@gregvancom5 ай бұрын
If they meet other codes for the length and pipe sizes, then I don't see why you couldn't. They don't do it, because it usually costs more.

Most states allow AAVs now for the vent under the sink. NJ finally approved them a few years ago.

How do I find out what codes my state uses? Is it listed on the county or city website?
@houptee5 ай бұрын
@@censoredeveryday3320 it should be on the state website or the county. Some states have statewide code but some cities have their own amendments. Like NY City and Chicago has a different code than the rest of the state. NY City PVC is not allowed for sewer pipe because rats chew through it so they require cast iron sewer pipe!
@censoredeveryday33205 ай бұрын
@@houptee Thank you very much. That is very interesting about pvc pipe.
@jagboy695 ай бұрын
@@houptee That's stupid. Cast iron is expensive. Maybe if they took care of their rat problem this wouldn't be an issue.

I'm pretty sure that the shower drain is supposed to be 2" now.
@houptee5 ай бұрын
Shower only with a low curb needs 2". Tub shower with the higher tub height and the overflow can still be 1.5" in most states. But if you are working with mostly 2" might as well just do it with 2" the cost is minimal difference.

In your “bonus video” you show the vent for the kitchen trap breaking at 90º below the floodplain of the kitchen sink. You cannot do this. The maximum you can break a vent below a floodplain is 45º. Some inspectors might let you get away with breaking it more than 45º if you install a cleanout above the floodplain of the fixture, but who wants an access panel for the cleanout in the middle of the kitchen backsplash? And, who wants to take the chance of the inspector saying “No” after everything is roughed in and holes are already drilled in the studs?

I totally agree with do it right so you don't need to tear it apart to pass inspection.

WTF happened to my comment about the flat laying 90 degree fitting??
@gregvancom5 ай бұрын
I don't know, but I can see this one.
@jagboy695 ай бұрын
@@gregvancom Then I'll retype it because I think it's important. In my texas town, they really frown on 3" 90degree fittings. Even a street is verboten! The reason is pooh doesn't exactly like to ever take a 90degree turn. The only place they are cool with it is if it's a vertical drop. Better is a pair of 45s with at least 16" straight pipe in between. This keeps the speed up and things moving. All the best! Love your channel.
@gregvancom5 ай бұрын
@@jagboy69 Is that 3 - 90 degree fittings for a vent from drain or drain to sewer or for individual fixtures, because I've hear from plumbers that you can't turn more than 180 degrees when venting from fixtures, but never found it in the code books.
@jagboy695 ай бұрын
@@gregvancom sorry.. drain to sewer. No 90s unless it's to perform a drop. Not even a street.
