Great review as always, the thing with decent shoes is this review is still applicable even though its 6 years old! I have some Grenson Warren Chelsea boots in snuff suede and they are fantastic. Came across a great deal on the Archie in dark brown on a commando sole but they were size 7.5uk, normally i'm an 8. After watching this i went ahead with the 7.5, €73 is an absolute steal! Great shoes, I've watched your channel for awhile listening to your opinion on Red Wings, Dr. Martens and others and always find them some of the best and most informative videos.

Just found your channel 👍 I live in Northamptonshire in the middle of the shoe making industry. I have/ or had several members of my family and neighbors workingin the trade. My sister works for Grensons. I’ve very recently got my hands on ( or feet lol) a pair of trickers brogue boots off my neighbor as he works for them.

Good review, as usual. I was disappointed to hear you say these are made overseas. They are now officially off my list. I was also quite surprised to hear you say the cost of a resole would be so expensive. These aren’t super expensive shoes like Churches or Crockett & Jones, both of which charge roughly £110-120 for a full resole and refurbish. I put Grenson in the same category at Loake. Loake charge around £60 for a full resole, which is much more reasonable. I suppose the full resole makes for an interesting video review.

I have mixed feelings about Grenson. They have their entry level/fashion focused shoes like the Archie (not made in the UK). The quality is not great at this level. At the other extreme they have the Grenson Zero range which are bench made in England - and the quality level is superb. Can't help feeling they are tarnishing the brand by churning out so much at the bottom end of the quality hierarchy. Do a search for Grenson shoes on the Internet and you get loads of results for shoes priced around £100. Peanuts and hardly aspirational.

Quick question... I'm in the U.S. and I'm considering buying the Archie from the U.K. as they're far cheaper ($350 here). My concern is I wear a U.S. 10.5 Wide and was going to order the U.K. 9.5 as that's the corresponding size. Any thoughts on whether to go with that option or something else? I'd hate to order these, wait for shipping over the pond only to find the shoe doesn't fit well in terms of width and length. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide. Cheers!

Grenson..got a few Grensons..made in England tho.. For a resole etc...try the Shoe Healer Doncaster.. Superb workmanship.. Had loads done by them

That’s a split welt and that particular welt is known as a storm welt. They are not triple welt (you’d see 3 staggered levels). They are triple sole; unlike the standard 2 layer mid and outsole they have a 3rd layer. Have you had them re-soled yet with the Commando sole?

great review, thanks ! may I ask what these were like in wet weather ? so puddles, rain , etc ( not necessarily on grass or marshy ground - more wet pavements , paths , etc)

I was worried about how leather would perform in the wet, but these were fine, not slippery, and the water did not soak through as there is a full rubber later sandwiched in there.... really quite hard wearing too

You have a great shoe there as made by an artist and you want to clag big daft rubber soles on them. You obviously like them why do you want to change them. They are truly elegant as they are.
