I wish you and your band the best of luck and hope you find success it sounds like you guys have a lot of the same influences as I do, I tried the independent music route and wasn’t able to make it and do it mostly for fun now. I’m looking forward to what else The Definitive has to share.

Hey Dylan, absolutely love the lesson. I’ve also been learning lover leaver (taker believer). Have you ever done a lesson on the slide outro? Keep rocking 🤘
@djones_music Жыл бұрын
Hey Zachary! Thanks for watching and for the kind words. I believe I've got a lesson out for the slide part of that song but I may be mistaken. That was back in the days of using a pen cap for a slide haha. I know I put a lesson up for that song though so check that out and hopefully I've got a slide part in there for ya!

Great lesson man, I’ve loved the tone on all your videos, do you know what the amps settings were as well as the guitars?
@djones_music Жыл бұрын
Thanks Alex, really glad you're digging my tone! For amp settings I've got the crunch setting for my amp turned on, and then my bass knob is all the way up, my mids knob is at notch 7 and my treble knob is at notch 6. Then you add a little bit of reverb, use the bridge pickup on your guitar with the tone knob set to about 7 and you should be good to go!

Hey Dylan - love all of your pioneering work figuring out GVF songs! I am a rookie guitarist and a huge GVF fan and it has helped me so much - thanks! Was hoping to get your advice on how best for me to direct the learning of my 13 y/o son who recently decided he wants to play and after 8 weeks is showing amazing potential (different plane than me haha!). Just picked up his first - he picked a used Epiphone 1961 Les Paul! Looking for guidance from someone accomplished and closer to his generation of how he can learn the technical aspects while keeping it interesting and w/o turning it into "Music Class". Hoping to keep it on-line as opposed to expensive traditional in person guitar lessons. Would love to hear your thoughts if you have a chance. Thanks! Tom

Hey Thomas, thanks so much for your kind words and for following along with my stuff! That’s super cool that your son has gotten into guitar and is progressing quickly. My best advice to keep things interesting would be to ensure that he’s able to be working at songs that he enjoys listening to. Whether that’s Greta Van Fleet or another band. Try and find a song on the more simple side that he can work at and see if there is a video lesson available on youtube to teach how to play it. Maybe you could learn the song together to try and hold each other accountable too. Then once the song is proficient, you guys can jam together and play as musicians rather than just one person playing alone in a room. Often times playing with other people is a lot more fun and engaging than just going at it yourself. Hopefully then this will ignite a spark inside him to keep pursuing it because ultimately as he gets older, he will have to have that drive from within to keep pursuing it, even just as a hobby. Hope this helps ya out a little bit! Again, thanks for your kind words and if you like Greta, you may enjoy my band The Definitive. We put out our first album this past August on all streaming platforms and are on most socials, but primarily instagram! Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers man!😁🤘

Thanks so much Dylan for finding the time and providing this great advice! I think it will be very helpful. I would love to check out your band’s music. Gotta tell you he’s got maybe 12 weeks since starting to play and is playing highway song like a pro as well as learning a bunch of Metallica. We started playing Running Down a Dream together - he’s the lead and is tearing it up! I’m so amazed bc he is on a much higher plain of ability than I was or am. Super grateful! I will continue to learn from your videos. Again, thanks so much for your reply and all you are putting out here!

As a metaler, the no. 1 thing I look for is actually if I think a riff is cool or not. I like riffs such as holy wars, shit is complicated sure, it’s cool though. Same goes for this one. Can’t get enough of a good riff doesn’t matter the complexity.
@djones_music Жыл бұрын
Totally man! That's where it really counts. Some of the most iconic riffs are some of the easiest to play! As long as it sounds good the complexity doesn't matter. Respect brotha!🤘

Heeeey man! thanks for the thorough explanation! btw, did you custom order this purple SG? i've been looking for ages this maestro bridge but can't find it anywhere
@djones_music Жыл бұрын
Hey brotha, thanks for the kind words! Glad I could help you out with the lesson. The SG is actually a homebuilt! The vibrola tailpiece is very hard to come by. Your best bet is to try and find it for sale on reverb, or crazyparts. Otherwise you gotta go through gibson custom shop. But yeah this one is a homebuilt I did myself!
