I am a huge Zeppelin fan is 45 years told I was a child when Zeppelin we're big and got my first album in 75 at 3 years old. I couldn't stop playing that record, Physical Graffiti, for a couple years until my parents dug up Zeppelin 1 and 2 from their collection and then I was an absolute fanatic for life. I I started playing guitar at 8 years old because I wanted to be Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Keith Richards, and Jimi Hendrix. Then I heard the first Van Halen record in about 1981 the rest is history. Maturity let me to the conclusion that, despite having the Raw Talent of Hendrix or Van Halen, it was Jimmy Page that was the most interesting and had the coolest songs and riffs. Although these guys will never ever be Led Zeppelin and lack the Musical virtuosity of Zeppelin and other bands would be compared Zeppelin such as Rush, these guys have at least captured the vibe and musical essence of what makes Led Zeppelin great. In the 1970s during the reign of Zeppelin, these guys may have been panned as a knock off. But in the year 2018, the rock and roll landscape is a f****** dried-up Wasteland of garbage and kids think that f****** Hip Hop is the musical Revolution that only rock and roll truly was back in the fifties. With autotune and Pro Tools any chode to put out some crap ass Machine album. These guys are doing great rock and roll the old fashion way and if there is Zeppelin style sound inspires more young people to create the beautiful rock and roll that we grew up with, then I say it's a great thing. All the experts say that Stevie Ray Vaughan was a Hendrix rip off and that turned out to be a big oversimplification. As these guys mature they will find their own musical voice and could possibly be on the cusp of a rock and roll Revolution that takes that fake new country music and some of the shity hip-hop that is going on these days and bring us back to a time when pop radio would play the Beatles, James Brown, The Jackson 5 and Frank Sinatra during the same set. That's what pushes music forward. Pop stations now nothing more then corporate bulshit that sucks the Soul and honesty from the musical art form. It's got to stop

Christian Proctor yes but unlike GVF they actually brought something new and exciting to the table. Page’s production skills and innovative techniques shined throughout I on tracks like dazed and confused, your time is gonna come etc. they covered a lot but were still innovative with sound. What GVF is doing is just blatantly ripping off a band they wish they were. It’s pathetic.

What would you rather here Taylor Swift or Greta Van Fleet . Bro if in case you didn't notice New Rock Bands don't get played on the Radio anymore. Rock is Under ground. Connieandblyde Monsters there is a massive difference between RESPECT and COPYING. Loads of bands were influenced by Led Zeppelin... Heart, Rush, Soundgarden - they all were influenced and you could see that in how they crafted their music. For example Barracuda follows the same galloping guitar rhythm as Achilles Last Stand but you can't say its a copy. You can see influences in the pieces but never overt plagiarism. That's the difference. I highly suggest you learn to distinguish between the two.

Deniel Lucho well you know, when you've listened to all the Zeppelin songs and are starting to get bored of the same songs it's like having new Zeppelin songs to listen to. I swear classic rock fans can never make up their damn mind, always saying "why can't modern rock be like this" then when a band does come out trying to rock old school it's "OMG such ripoffs". Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

"But remember that zeppelin 1 was similar, originals mixed with some that sounded like their blues influences" I think the difference here is that LedZep took the blues riff and made it into a sound the world hadn't really heard of at that point. They basically transformed blues into heavy rock. Greta is doing the opposite, they're doing something that has been done a thousand times over. Not just in the riffs and the vocals but even the production. The singer has a really good voice, it's hard to judge the others' talent but if this is supposed to be the most exciting rock band of recent memory, then maybe rock music is really dead and Greta Van Fleet is the obituary.

Zeppelin took blues riffs and turned it into their own distorted sound. Yes they ripped off a decent amount of riffs, but Greta Van Fleet literally took Jimmy Pages tone, and come on, the vocals. That is just absurd. Greta Van Fleet seriously needs to find their own sound so I can’t find my respect for them.

I don't believe the producer will try to push them in a different direction. If anything, I can see the producer and record label PUSHING them to sound as much like Zeppelin as possible because it's going to make a fast buck. I can see the record company giving these guys an album by album deal as they are going to ride this train as long as it's hot and then drop these guys like a STONE at the first sight of it slowing down. The sad reality is, that is what is going to have happen before these boys are going to get to create their own identity on an independent label. Producers and record labels only care about "RIGHT NOW." I hope to hell I'm wrong here, but I've seen it happen over and over again. Perhaps in a few years we'll be asking, "What ever happened to those guys?"

But also if you are going to borrow heavily from another band why not borrow from one as beloved as Zeppelin? Describing 21-year-old Josh Kiszka as "a beautiful little singer," the 69-year-old Plant playfully added: "I hate him." Interviewer Ryan Fitzgerald went on to note Kiszka's "huge voice." "Yeah, and he borrowed it from somebody I know very well!" Plant responded. "But what are you going to do? That's OK." (Yup, that's exactly what he said.)

I am 56 and I woke up for work this morning with the highway song buzzing in my head from the night before, funny how music can do that, I think the most notable trait of these young guys and their music is their ability to rekindle a long dwindled adrenal rush music used to give me. Consider I lived through the British invasion and listened to the birth and development of the biggest bands ever to blaze trails into all our lives. What is cool is that Led Zeppelin rose to fame at a time when the world was ready for them and they were not hindered with familiarity and saturation of the genera they would eventually posses , in other words they were not hindered by some of the hurdles GVF has had to overcome , all this music has been done before and done to death for decades , the fact that these guys are catching on so quickly despite that, is testament to just how talented they are , the cohesiveness of their sound the lyrics melodies tempo timing beat inflections and blazing stunningly unique vocals by Josh are what make GVF able to bulldoze through a jaded audience deadened by decades of musical mediocrity and ignite the excitement in people garnishing reactions such as the ones on this blog, to simply say as some have that GVF is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and that is their appeal is crushingly marginalizing , my God listen to the acoustic version of Black Smoke Rising, Edge of Darkness OMG these are genuinely masterful songwriters singers and musicians. These guys are on fire and I can’t wait to hear what comes next. I still remember how it felt when I got my first Zeppelin, Stones , Floyd LP and so many other monster talents, the only reason I can remember , and I am being completely sincere in saying this , is that after listening to this entire track , for the first time in decades I felt it again I want to have all my friends over and crank this cool new album buy this new band Greta Van Fleet in its unstoppable infancy and we will all play air guitar and get buzzed laugh and not give a fuck about anything because the music is doing the talking and pulled us all out of our heads to let us live in the moment, that's some serious spiritual currency . Peace Everybody,,,,,, Darren.

Hey Mike, first time commenter, first time listener. I think you do a vital service to patrons of the art, I wish I would ran into this sooner. Just having someone to tell me if I should dig a band or not takes so much pressure off my shoulders. Always before I would actually have to hear the song or band a few time and then rely sole on my taste. Well, you can just imagine how off the rails things could get if we all practiced self judgement and independent thinking. You kind of started on the kid’s sex appeal before any real musical critique, you’re not h?aving a challenge suppressing any thoughts that could land you in jail are you brother? Stay safe on that. One last thought though, had there never been a Zeppelin, would you have thought the same of them as you might have after the release of LZ’s debut album? The kids may be a flash in the pan, or bowl, whatever but when you start boxing young artists into a sound you have decided on the ears of virgin listeners are tainted by the band not living up to the legend, which isn’t particularly fair for any of us. Ok, one last point, do you subscribe to the myth that Page never stole a riff or noodle in the making of any of his albums?

Disliked. I just think it’s unfair to shit on very talented young men whose career just have started. I mean you never know what they’re gonna develop into. From what I know, they have only released one album so far and I bet more is to come. I just think it’s very important for them to find a great source of inspiration, like led zeppelin for example. Sure GVF isn’t really coming with anything new that hasn’t been done before but they still definitely differ from many of other bands nowadays. I have also been into music for a long time just like you and i can tell these guys are very talented and I think your judge was unfair. I mean you even went so low that you started picking on minor things like: Ha, you just missed a note! And also, the drummer’s solo sure wasn’t the most impressive I’ve heard but then again, he is young and still have much to learn so it’s unfair to shit on him! Also the singer is amazing, sure he sounds like Robert Plant a lot but still he’s got a great voice and will eventually develop his own style of singing.

I mostly agree, just adding that I think these guys need to better develop their songs, making them longer and more complex, because at the end of the day Zeppelin _were_ kind of complex. A song with just two riffs and barely lasting 4 minutes is simply not enough even to imitate LZ. On a particular side, they also need to improve the drums in the studio, cause to me those sound pretty dull, though the tone is ok.
