@@flugplatz21 I'd say Jake and Sam are equal musicians, if not Jake being better. He can carry on solos for 15+ minutes without losing anyone's attention. If anything, Danny could put some work in, but then again he's a guitarist at heart not a drummer
@flugplatz214 жыл бұрын
@@julianpottermusic Nice thoughts, Julian. I don't really know Danny's history, but guitar and drums have a well documented cross over of players. I'd imagine Tommy Bolin was right in that the picking and hi hat hand get really strong, and guitar is a rhythm, and some say percussion instrument, anyway. I've seen them once, and will admit to having near impossible standards. I want a guitarist to keep me interested and engaged for two hours. Once I see the same pattern or shape three times in a show, I start to notice it. GVF is just good enough, and have a sound, that places them in the unfortunate position of being compared to some of the greatest ever. I won't fault them for not living up to it. Given time and the right settings, we'll see music from at least Jake and Sam for a long time.

Idk my main issue is that they're barking up the wrong tree. They sound WAY too similar to Led Zeppelin, but then you see the differences in the substance of the song. These play more like pop songs. I wouldn't mind them sounding like Zeppelin if they had better musicianship and a singer that wasn't the reincarnation of Robert Plant, but ultimately it comes off to me as a watered down zeppelin
@GibsonGuy07075 жыл бұрын
Kids can still appreciate rock by listening to Led Zeppelin. If they like Greta Van Fleet, then there's no reason for them to not Led Zeppelin. Besides, the only people listening to this band are the older folks. GVF isn't breaking any grounds here, nor or they going to "save rock".
@redzwestisbest5 жыл бұрын
@@GibsonGuy0707 Nonsense. Go to their concerts. What a moronic ignorant comment. plenty of 20-30 year olds there. That is the thing, nobody will listen to Led Zeppelin anymore without bands that are inspired by them. Hardly any radio stations play their music and those stations that do, do not have a large audience. Look up the top streaming songs. Look up any charts. GVF does not have to break new musical ground, but they need to break the wall to the new generation of musicians that DO NOT go to LZ for inspiration. You would be surprised that most of the newer bands DO NOT. Listen to the interviews for GVF and you can tell they have deep group of inspirations including the mainstream LZ, but more intricate than just mainstream.

I am 56 and I woke up for work this morning with the highway song buzzing in my head from the night before, funny how music can do that, I think the most notable trait of these young guys and their music is their ability to rekindle a long dwindled adrenal rush music used to give me. Consider I lived through the British invasion and listened to the birth and development of the biggest bands ever to blaze trails into all our lives. What is cool is that Led Zeppelin rose to fame at a time when the world was ready for them and they were not hindered with familiarity and saturation of the genera they would eventually posses , in other words they were not hindered by some of the hurdles GVF has had to overcome , all this music has been done before and done to death for decades , the fact that these guys are catching on so quickly despite that, is testament to just how talented they are , the cohesiveness of their sound the lyrics melodies tempo timing beat inflections and blazing stunningly unique vocals by Josh are what make GVF able to bulldoze through a jaded audience deadened by decades of musical mediocrity and ignite the excitement in people garnishing reactions such as the ones on this blog, to simply say as some have that GVF is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and that is their appeal is crushingly marginalizing , listen to the acoustic version of Black Smoke Rising, Edge of Darkness these are genuinely masterful songwriters singers and musicians. These guys are on fire and I can’t wait to hear what comes next. I still remember how it felt when I got my first Zeppelin, Stones , Floyd LP and so many other monster talents, the only reason I can remember , and I am being completely sincere in saying this , is that after listening to this entire track From The Fires , for the first time in decades I felt it again I want to have all my friends over and crank this cool new album buy this new band Greta Van Fleet in its unstoppable infancy and we will all play air guitar and get buzzed laugh and not give a fuck about anything because the music is doing the talking and pulled us all out of our heads to let us live in the moment, that's some serious spiritual currency . Peace Everybody,,,,,, Darren.

I had the privilege of interviewing GVF last month at FloydFest, already well aware of their talent and presence. Incredibly smart and perceptive folks. Not kidding. They blew the doors off that festival. As someone who has attended thousands (1,000s) and thousands of rock shows, that GVF FloydFest show entered my "Top 10." The head they carry on their shoulders will serve them well as this road gets wilder and more haphazard, in terms of people, places and things expecting more and more from them and such. As a longtime rock journalist, I was blown away by their sincerity and well thought out nature of self and purpose. That said, yeah, I loved your statement. Kudos. Cheers from Carolina. It's good to see rock making a comeback, same as Americana and other genres. Streaming and the internet has liberated those genres from the constraint and control of radio and television trying to ram pop, hip hop, and bro country down everybody's throats. This is a type of music that has an untapped market. They are young and new, so millennials and Gen Z's like them, but you can't tell me that somebody from the Led Zeppelin generation doesn't like this. I'll bet you see all different ages at their shows.

Good that rock is coming back and giving people like us and alternative to rap and pop. Bands that are bringing back rock however, are called “copycats” like GVF and Led Zeppelin. It’s just that with a lot of influence in rock history, some of their sound has to make it to other songs

This band brings me so much happiness. It’s so sad to see the hate towards them. First people are like, “why can’t there be bands like Led Zeppelin anymore?” Now that there is a band that is obviously inspired by them and is trying to bring this awesome style to more listeners, people say “they are copy cats and unoriginal.” He has been blessed with a stellar voice and this band is incredible.
@andrewmyers40156 жыл бұрын
Exactly since when did “they sound like Zeppelin” become an insult? I hear many other blues and rock influences in their music. Just because his vocals are similar to Robert Plant doesn’t mean they’re unoriginal. People said the same of Geddy Lee before rush came up big. These guys are creating their own music and it is beautiful music without a doubt. People just look for things to complain about. I pity those who deprive themselves of this amazing music because they refuse to open their minds and accept that these guys have talent and we’re lucky to have the chance to see where their music takes them. I for one can’t wait and I’m certain I’m far from alone. Rock n roll never died it’s just become less mainstream, but I think that Greta Van Fleet is helping to change that. And for that, we should all be grateful.

If you listen to Plant's vocals and Page's play, you'll see that there is no comparison. Listen to Zepp. This kid just screeches up and down, he doesn't try to control his voice at all. This is an improvement over their other songs, I must admit. Without a comparison to Zepp and just other music in general, they are mediocre.
@linkyloo13706 жыл бұрын
How can you say he’s not bringing anything new to the music industry. His voice is definitely similar to Robert Plant, but their music is still entirely different
@occallie6 жыл бұрын
Depends on what your (apparently) untrained ears call music. You listen to AC/DC knockoffs too? He couldn't sing either.
@jdwar6 жыл бұрын
That's a bit unfair, what you're saying. This guy from GVF has a very different style than Plant, obviously. Hell, maybe Safari Song was when he came closest to Plant, but since then I haven't ever thought that way. This guy plays a lot more with highs and lows, and it's pretty distinctive, like you said, the screech, or whatever. Like the poster above you said, he might have the same-y voice sometimes, the music they are making is not the same. The style is different, sometimes radically so. Saying other people have "untrained" ears because they disagree with your opinion is incredibly rude. And I am against the opinion that they aren't bringing anything new. They are bringing themselves. They are new, now let them have their shot and don't call them mediocre, like it's a fact, when they are a very welcome refresher from years of rock being very, very bland. Disagree if you will, but I'm glad they're around.
@linneabjorklid60796 жыл бұрын
Mostly what I meant was that these guys haven't created a "new genre" like we have heard this before, which I believe everyone can tell if they don't have untrained ears.. But I never said that there was anything wrong with that. Neither that I personally thought that he sounded like Plant.. In fact I really appreciate this band.

The thing about Josh is that sometimes he sounds like Robert Plant, yes, but if you know all of their music at times he sounds like Geddy Lee of Rush, Ronnie James Dio, and even Janis Joplin at times.... it's like he's meshed all the most amazing singers together and he's just 'him'..... love this band!
@vellikofon5 жыл бұрын
yes of course, but all of the artists that you mentioned also happen to sound like someone else (the people that inspired them), there is no parthenogenesis (creation of something totally new and different from everything else) in all forms of art.

@@vellikofon thank you, this is refreshing compared to "Uh, this is a Zep rip off" or "he's imitating Robert Plant"

its pretty infuriating seeing people say they are a copy of led zep. what they dont understand is how well they GVF mastered the code of oldschool rock and what makes it good. also lead singer has amazing vocal capacity and its awesome how well he actually utilise it.

He sounds like Morrison and Cat Steven's as well! This kid is amazing

This really is a near-perfect classic rock song. Soaring vocals, groovy riff and bluesy soulful solo, with vaguely jazzy drums
