It is unfortunate that so many people seem to get hung up on the gretsch volume knobs. It's easy though. They are exactly like the channels, faders, and master volume on a mixing board! With that kind of versatile setup, a person can blend their pickups together in whatever way their heart desires.
@williambuol34232 жыл бұрын
every guitar should have the gretsch master volume setup…it’s a game change. i had a les paul rewired…with the same config.
@Mike286252 жыл бұрын
@@williambuol3423 I'm still experimenting and learning. I've got a triple broad'tron 2627 that seems to be able to sound like anything largely due to the built in pre-volume design. Cool gain tricks too. Magic crunch from out of thin air.
@miguellott90382 жыл бұрын
What I hate is that if you have the master volume at anything less than full blast, the tone control then becomes the master volume. Try it and you will see what I mean.
@Mike286252 жыл бұрын
@@miguellott9038 i know what you mean. I think that's an issue with the treble pass through. I found that it works like an eq. The master lowers the bass without touching the treble and the tone does the opposite. I also have my pickups set fairly high to prevent gain drop out that happens when there's not enough signal at low volumes.

They're exactly like the channels on a mixing board. You use the individual volumes to shape a custom tone you like in the blend position. Little more bridge here, a little less neck there. Once you get good on a tone, you now have the master volume as the main overall volume controller without messing up your settings.

I just bought one, the same model Rob is playing in fact, and I love it. It came out of the box perfectly set up. I think it sits between a Tele and a Les Paul sound. Broadtrons are the pickups on the cheaper streamliner and jet club series. Much more like a regular humbucker in tone. The pickups on the Electromatic and pro jet ranges are the wonderful blacktop Filtertons. The Pro series use true filtertrons. But I have done several back to back comparisons and the difference between a £430 pro jet and a £3000 duo jet is about 10%.

Pro Jets were what they called Jets when they changed the humbucker pickups to the black filtertron style, I think name has reverted back to Jet for standard models and now the pickups are Broadtrons which are more like PAFs (except the cub with the older style Gretsch bucker looking ones). I prefer filtertrons so its a bit of a dissapointment, maybe the older Pro Jets will be cheaper now.
