I've not seen these before. I'm delighted by the unorthodox presentation of conventional circular tradition. I did not imagine so much distance between the two was possible. It's both quite stimulating and easily readable. Bravo for the substantial exploration of the concept. My interest in wristband timepieces is kept aloft by this kind of pioneering achievement.

Brilliant camera work! The details captured in those watches outside of a controlled environment are sublime! Very hard to accomplish! Tangentially, Mr. Stephen Forsey is a remarkably articulate gentleman.

The Art Piece Historique is simply a work of art. Those engravings are out of this worldly fine. Balancier Contemporain on the hand while may be an entry level GF watch is impeccable. I adore the balance wheel and its perfect size.

It takes several days to do the lettering! It is initially laser engraved, but then it is chased down by hand, the whole thing grit blasted to produce the background grain and then the letters back ground to get the finished result.

Great brand, a stand alone name in all aspects indeed. One thing I'd like to point out and now I have mix feeling about it. For as long as I have learnt about Greubel Forsey, the one thing that I found visually appealing and unique was the engraved characters found on the dials and in and around the watches. However thanks to your awesome along ups, I could read what the engravings tell. And honest opinion I was expecting more than just watch making vocabularies and repetition of words. 1000 characters? Imagine what a great story teller or a poet could do with half of that.
@ianmedium5 жыл бұрын
Tommy Rin you have hit on a fantastic idea. Imagine the prose of historic poets engraved on these watches, poetry about time. I hope they read the comments.

"3-4 years to deliver" - Are you kidding me mr. Forsey?
@ianmedium5 жыл бұрын
This is truly all hand work of the highest order by a small team, I’m actually amazed they can do it in that short a time span. If I had the money I would have no problem waiting that long, it’s part of what makes it special. I think a Dufour if you can even order one is about eight years wait now.
@watchestv-com5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I understand that not everyone can realise what it takes to do this. Thanks and best to you
@hiepnguyenlh5 жыл бұрын
@@ianmedium Yes, I knew it and agree with you. I used to read a blog, that guy ordered a Simplicity when his wife was prenant, He got his Simplicity when his son was about 5-6 years old. But the things are: he has to wait Philippe Dufour finishes the previous orders and Philippe Dufour makes his watch alone. And if Philippe Dufour accepts my Simplicity order now, I just have to wait about 4-5 months. Here the Simplicity's parts: www.thenakedwatchmaker.com/deconstruction-philippe-dufour/
@hiepnguyenlh5 жыл бұрын
@@watchestv-com Nah, I know how long does it take to make a watch at this level, and I'm not surprised if they process to make all 33 pieces in the next 3-4 years. I just want to clarify: They will make all 33 pieces in the next 3-4 years (e.g: if I order one now, the 1/33, I will receive it in April or May; you order the second, you receive it few months later, and go on) or the first one will be deliver in 2022 cuz their schedule is full in the next 3 years? And what about the Art Piece Historique? He didnt mention the delivery time.

It's almost disturbing how the artist behind the work featured in the collection literally got less than a second on screen. Even worse, it was while his back was turned to the camera. The greater offense is you didn't even care to mention his name. For anyone interested, the artist commissioned for these pieces is world renowned micro-sculptor Willard Wigan. To suggest the oversight was due to any reason other than the fact he is black would be insult to injury. Do better 👎🏽

Mmm, it's nice that they could do this and what not from a craftmanship perspective, but from an actual visual arts perspective (from which they borrow the language, when they talk about "installation" and "sculpture"), these watches have zero interest (and I say this as an arts professional). So presenting them as "art pieces" is a bad move from that brand and frankly a bit embarrassing. Sorry for the negative comment but it needs to be said. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of watches that double as amazing artworks, but these really don't. This brand should use a different angle to showcase this kind of models, and rethink the way they want to do artistic collaborations in the future, because this series would not even get you into a mid-tier art school as a portfolio item tbh.
@watchestv-com5 жыл бұрын
Interesting opinion and we are indeed all entitled to one, but I would insist that the level of craftsmanship behind these pieces really is on another level. Thanks for the comment and best to you.
@lsamoa5 жыл бұрын
@@watchestv-com Yes the craftmanship is indeed of a very high level, but they're kidding themselves if they think they're doing visual art. For people who actually work in this field, their claims are a bit insulting tbh. Their work just doesn't qualify as such, regardless of whether one likes their aesthetics or not. But anyway. Great series of videos about SIHH 2019, I really enjoy your coverage!
