Thank you for this! I have also been disappointed with a Grey Knights novel I bought. I've also heard someone say that GK are "Mary Sues" because their faction doesn't really have a lot of internal strife, they get their geneseed from The Emperor, they're so badass to be on or nearly on par with Custodes. I really like your comment because this sums up the conflict with the Grey Knights, why they're interesting. They take on the grimmest, most mind-bendingly hellish of tasks and give up their humanity to take on humanity's gravest foes. Somehow, they are immune to corruption but are still exposed to the absolute horrors that are daemons. It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it. Their drama is not so much from internal conflict as it is from their quests and foes they face, in addition to the moral complexity of dealing with the public after it had been exposed to chaos.

I just started getting in to 40k relatively recently, but so far I think these guys are my favorite. They’re basically a bunch of sci fi battlemages/paladins that specialize in demon hunting and that has to be my favorite concept in fiction.

Yes. Unfortunately, in order to get to them, you'd need to do two things. 1) Literally assault the Fortress Monastery of a Chapter of Psychic Space Marines who hate all things chaos and specialize in killing it. 2) Know enough about Necron hyper-advanced technology to release the daemon within less you get trapped in there with it. Of those two things, you're better off with the Grey Knights, because the Necrons have honed the capture and pokeballing of god-like entities to an artform.

The Grey Knights: killing enough Imperial civilians to make a Greater Daemon of Khorne proud since M31. If you're a minion of chaos and want to clear a few systems of Imperial life, broadcast a daemonic incursion or summoning across civilian channels on local worlds. The Inquisition will probably show up with their lapdogs and wipe out the populations for you. Sarcasm aside, the GK are the most grimdark faction in 40k outside the Dark Eldar. There are numerous chapters and forces that fight daemons, and the GK are strong among them, but the the way they both treat their allies disdainfully and duplicitously, and treat imperial civilians as chattel makes it hard for me to consider them worth it. If I were Guilliman I'd be giving them constant side eye.

The Grey Knights give up there old name, old personality and humanity. They have no desire for glory or personal gain. Everything they do is for the Emperor and for humanity. This is the same for the Golden Gods the Costodes. "I know I misspelled there name sorry!" I feel like this is why they are near impossible to turn. The Astartes and even the Emperor's sons have a lot of pride and envy and all of the other emotions that the warp gods like to pray on and use to turn them against there Daddy Big E!

Bro I was just thinking about this, The Librarians of the gray Knights have to be insane sychar levels! I mean they're all siker's as it is they're all extremely powerful siker's they all have the emperor's Jean seed and a librarian is like an Uber sychar so if you take chapter that's already a bunch of uber siker's and then put them in holy armor with the emperor's psychic teens seed and then they're Librarians which means they're that much more in-depth with the warp? And some of these dudes the older ones were like knights-errant from the Thousand Sons so holy effing crap! I didn't think about that but then dudes like blow up some s*** with their heads! LOL

My only question is this The Grey Knights are supposed to be the best, apart from the Custodes and Primarchs.
