Grief-stricken police officers honor fallen Miami-Dade detective

From the Freedom Tower turned blue in downtown Miami to the balloons and flowers on an unmarked police car in West Little River, Miami-Dade County honored a fallen detective with tributes that included a solemn procession and a motorcade to the funeral home.

I dont know and will not ever know how my Grandfather made it through the 70's in Miami as a Cop. I still look at his picture and see it on his face , he lost alot of friends , NYPD and Miami ... So you have proper perspective and context... this doesn't happen daily or even yearly... the job of a police officer can lead to death but it is statistically not the most dangerous job in America, nor is it close. Yet police oftentimes kill with impunity and are protected by qualified immunity giving some the idea these protections are given because of the work that is done. Fact is those protections are extended by a drive to protect the government financially. In a capitalistic society the dollar drives decision making.

you're right officer deaths don't happen daily. but they definitely happen yearly. if you're specifically talking chances of death, sure the job isn't anywhere near the top, but the chances of injury are significantly higher than 90 percent of jobs. dozens of officers are injured one way or another in south florida daily while that number is in the tens of thousands around the country. sounds like you're the one who needs perspective and context.

And he was killed, moments after he took the life of this officer, I feel nothing for the suspect and his family this officer didn't deserve this. This was senseless and tragic.
