I just started using a barrel smoker with charcoal. I recently made burgers on it and wow! After years of gas grill only cooking, this was a whole new world of flavor for me. Looking forward to cooking more with the barrel as a grill rather than just a smoker.

My fav, smoked to a low internal temp (90-100) and finished over blazing hot coals...perfection.

Off set smoked burgers are the best. Use charcoal, Hickory and Oak. Tried apple chunk wood last time and I have to say it was a nice flavor. Thanks for sharing...

I like them all! I have to say that so many people hate on gas grills, but lots of nights it wouldn’t happen if it weren’t that convenient. I’m an offset stick burner guy most of the time, though! It’s great to have options, and utilize what works for you. Great channel and content, I really enjoy it.

Your smoked hamburger recipe on my pellet grill is hands down my favorite! Made them this week, and the family couldn’t get enough!

We had this discussion Sunday. Hamburger, charcoal grill was the winner. Hamburger steak, smoker, with a quick sear at the end, and topped with grilled onions and mushrooms.

I do my burgers on my Blackstone griddle, and I put on my cold smoked cheese. You get that beautiful crust on the burgers with delicious smokey cheese.

yeah _ I'm going for the charcoal burger but with chopped tomatoes and onions -- the ketchup and mayo and lettuce are always included ... great video tips ... :)

I do charcoal. I sear them first over high heat and then finish over indirect heat. As long as it's quality burger you can't go wrong with any of those methods.

I love doing burgers on my Weber. Indirect for 15-20 minutes and finish off direct until it reaches the desired temp. Charcoal all the way

Poor Todd didn’t get a bite. Spider sense slacking. I agree with your decision. Charcoal is the best of both worlds.

I don't know....Bobby Flay would have added anchovies in bread crumbs and a layer of crispy rice. I like charcoal on the Weber.

I usually use lump charcoal with some wood chips tossed in during the cook.

I've had mixed results on the smoker. Haven't quite dialed in the temp yet. They are good, and much easier than charcoal. I have always preferred charcoal, but its a PITA, especially when cooking just for myself. Which is almost always the case. Takes longer to fire up the charcoal than it does to actually cook the meat. Same goes for steaks.

I grill over charcoal (mostly burgers and brats), which it looks like what most people here do. Apologies if I missed it: do you first grill over direct heat, then move to the cool side, or do you bring the burger mostly up to temp on the cool side, then do a reverse sear over the hot side? From the video, it looks like you did hot side, then cool side, which is what I do. When grilling, I have the cover off for the hot-side cooking, then cover for the cool side (top vents over the cool side, for convection) cook. Have you tried both, and if so, have you found a difference?
