This song is about the suicide of Grimes close friend David Peet, who died in 2008. They had planned to create a band together. Peet was one of the co-founders of "Lab Synthese" (which is where Claire Boucher started to experiment in music under the name "Grimes"). David believed in her and her music. So when Peet passed Claire felt like she needed to move forward with the Grimes project, and she then signed with the record label Arbutus.

Thanks for the back story. Makes the song hit hard. I too have lost friends to suicide. Nearly lost my life to drugs. Some people say she grew up with privilege and money. Even so , she knows the pain of loss. She's suffered seeing friends lost to drugs. Nothing really shields you from the tragedy in this world. And they say artists feel things more deeply than most.

@@colddaze6680 It's true her family had money. But for an extended period of time Claire (Grimes) she refused help from them and lived very lower class to live more extensively. To this day her toes are still damaged from frost bite when she hung out and performed in an abandoned warehouse in Canada. And at times she lived only on potatoes.
@colddaze66808 ай бұрын
@@jameslatta6813 Heard something like that. Heard one side of her story that her parents cut her off for a while after she dropped out of university, to focus on music. Either way, respect her for going her own way, and suffering , existing like a lower class person for a while before making her own money again. At least she now knows how the other half lives, which most that come from money never do, or even care to think about.

No, she just hasn't released officially lots of her music and each time it's for a different reason! One becuas it was a demo made for fans, another cause she thought it was overproduced, another was different style and didn't fit in the album, some are her rare, unreleased music, some too experimental, ect ect...

It's interesting that you find her music fills you with hope. I find that her music is one of the only sounds that allows me to express the angst and sadness I feel about the world as a young adult and, in a way, release any emotions in a cathartic, stimming way via her screams (ex. in her song "SCREAM") and unorthodox beat choices (it doesn't follow common beat rules or formulas) and vocalizations (sometimes she makes growling or gibberish noises that are not traditionally sung in pop songs) at times. It's so amazing that we can find different meanings in her music as fans! I agree that her music has a very youthful sound to it, as I remember her being popular as well 5 years ago when my sister and her classmates were in their 20s and as big of a fan of hers as I am now. There's just something about her music that perfectly captivates the young adult experience, whether you can relate to it because you're a struggling young adult, or because you are reminiscing about the fun experience you had as one.

I am not a zealous fan, but think she is a creative force, demands to be listened to and is "never being boring". I have noticed a recent sea change where both she and Elon seem to believe and after previous serious concerns have reluctantly embraced AI and the augmentation and future integration of high tech to the human condition. Hence her operation on her filtered eye lids, Elon's increasing dissatisfaction with the long term prospects of the Earth environmentally and push into Robotics and moving mankind's future beyond the earth. Both are unconventional and share similar backgrounds and now a child plus a real sense of purpose. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be on this planet long term and be in "space colonisation" with all with the help from cutting edge research and engineering. Who would bet against them?, the last two years taken in consideration and Musk's previous track record.

[Chorus] Where does my heart go when you die How did that moment pass me by, oh How can you look so good and feel the way you do I never knew Oh, I never knew, oh [Verse 2] Got me dressin' in my Sunday-best; golden spires of light Hours pass like they are minutes or less, everything is alright [Pre-Chorus] Every time I'm down, I dream, I dream of you It's not worth it, though, forgetting everything I know (Was it worth it, though, leaving everything you know?) No hay responsabilidades allí, así que todo está bien... Siempre que toco fondo, sueño, sueño contigo... Aunque no vale la pena olvidar todo lo que recuerdo... Necesito a mi viejo amigo sentado junto a mi... Necesito a mi viejo amigo sentado junto a mi... TU fuiste todo lo que un compañero debía ser. ¿A donde fue mi corazón cuando moriste? ¿Cómo deje pasar por alto ese momento?
