The Fog is still one of Carpenter's most atmospheric and genuinely classic horror film. The opening will never be beat. An old salty sailor telling a story by the campfire about a classic seafaring legend.
@ChrisNoeth Жыл бұрын
The opening is EXACTLY the perfect example why Carpenter movies are so awesome! he distills down everything to it's core, so it can be done any better! This opening rocks and a lot of the other scenes also! Great movie! One of the best!

It's a movie I was kind of "meh" about when it was released but upon a recent re-watch, I've come to adore this movie. It has great pacing, atmosphere, dread and story. My hope is I can find a cut of the movie before the rewrites that made it what it is today simply to see how the original concept played out. Still, it's amazing how many reshoots there were and how it turned something the director disliked into what is now a cult classic.

When I was 12 years old, my friend and I were watching the Fog at home, at night, on VHS. All of a sudden there were 3 loud knocks on the front door (just like the movie) and it scared the holy hell out of us! We both hid in a closet until the knocking continued and we heard a voice say "Police, please open the door!" I slowly opened the door and it turned out that the cops were raiding the house next door and they were just there to warn us not to go outside until things calmed down.... I seriously thought I peed myself when that knock happened though. Fun times!

Great vid. John had a knack for "creep factor" in a movie. Anyone else would've turned it into a forgettable B horror movie, but John made a memorable gem out of it. On my first visit to California, the first thing that struck me is the eclectic feel of the place. The fauna and flora, homes, streets, buildings. It's all very unique. I love all the color and lushness. So much history too. It's no wonder celebrities make it home.

Around 1990 my wife, son, brother and cousin and their wives rented the house on stilts over the water, the same house in the movie. We rented it for a weekend. My young son (age 11 then) slept in the bedroom that was attacked by one of the pirate ghosts, who in the movie clawed at the door with his hook hand. The owner of the house had a copy of the movie for renters to view if they wished. We visited the lighthouse too, which at that time was closely approachable. My only other very small connection to the film is through Adrienne Barbeau. A friend of mine from my Toastmasters chapter, was in her high school class at Del Mar High in San Jose. He remembered that when Adrienne sat down at a table there was always the question of whether to put “them” on top of the table or stow them underneath.

I ended up being scared stiff and to this day, my mum says that she doesn't know how we ended up watching it, as she must have been in the other room that night😄..she'd be getting peace for a while, while we were being scared witless in the livingroom🙈. Jessica's sunglasses are so awesome. Plus this channel got me listening to 'Calamity Man' by BATMOBILE.

You're in for a treat. A rare movie that proves that gore is not necessary for an effective horror movie. Just avoid the 21st century remake!

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I like how John Carpenter said he fell in love with the area during filming and lived here for a number of years. Definitely pick up the special edition DVD of the Fog with all the extra videos, don't forget the pier/harbor at Bodega Bay where they filmed as well. Glad to see how many buildings have survived after all these years. 😊

I love how Tom Atkins name was Nick Castle in the movie. Nick Castle of course played Michael Myers in Halloween and Tom Atkins would go on to star in Halloween 3.

Ha, nice catch. . I think that mercury station wagon Janet Lee was driving up the old church road was the same car used when Michael Myers escaped in the first Halloween. I could be mistaken.

H3 had killer atmosphere. If it was a stand alone movie it would have gotten more love.
