It's an intercept cue. i.e. it provides steering information to fly an intercept course with your aircraft. It does not work like the aiming cue on American aircraft.

Super 530D version has max range 10 miles/17Km? on the data specs they say 40Km in ideal circumstances!

Losing lock is one thing, other is the range of Super 530, significally shorter than russian and american SARH missiles. The good thing is, it's very agile.

Shorter range than an R-27ER, but very comparable range to an AIM-7M or R-27R. However, it is a faster missile than either of those, especially the very very sluggish Sparrow. Meaning that in a straight BVR fight against something like an F-15 carrying Sparrows, the Mirage reserves the option to shoot 2nd and hit first. Combined with the Mirage's extraordinary high-altitude performance, IMO it is the King of Western aircraft in a SARH fight.

It's only been out for over two years though...we should cut them some slack... I don't know if their new 'partners' at the AdA are going to be happy with their complete lack of communication and snail pace development. Right now the Mirage is virtually unuseable in my opinion, I dunno what your lads have been making of it. The radar won't lock in auto acquisition, the hud goes spastic and it's basically a WVR guns platform.

With a radar lock no you don't

be me, learn the mirage in DCS 1.5, switch to F18 and A10c. Wants to fly mirage again, hops in cockpit in 2.5.6, remembers exactly how to fly mirage from 1.5 thinking nothing changed. Immediately realize that i have no idea wtf im doing. I officially know how to fly the A10c and the mirage is still confusing to me SMH

So once the lock is lost and suppose you have a missile in the air you can't reacquire the target and the missile continue to track? Seems a bit rubbish.

@@grimreapers Weapons SystemsCMD Depress seems to be the only way, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use that function for that purpose. I'm a noob with the plane.

Mayra 530 os old missile,similar to old saparrow,why don't have Matra Mica similar to amram?

I dont believe they were ever equipped on the m2kc. They are however on the m2000-5

@@MrClassytangerine you can add the Mica-ir on the m2k variant and the fire computer recognised it as magic-2 and use the same procedures, but with not data link mid-course update in the fighter you cannot exploit the long range of the mica missile. HAF M2000EGM/BGM variants now use the mica-ir version for selfprotection instead of magic-2 becouse the magic missiles were expired and the mbda asked alot for refurbished them. also the add of datalinks needed to be done with an modernised program with new radars (the old RDM-3 radar its obsolete and had problems from the begining) data links etc but dasault not ofering an AESA or even PESA radars for modernising the mirage-2k they focus on the rafale sales now, so not worthy the money. if they ofered minimal modernisation with data link for the mica mid course update, data link-16, new main mission computer and new MFDs on the old radar screen on a reasonable cost it would worth it.
