Cap, just want you to know that people specifically appreciate all the editing you do, and the cinemagraphic and camera-work decisions you make to tell the story. There is no other source available in the world to see high fidelity, large participant, areal engagements likes this. Your work is one of a kind.

No really historically accurate the hostages died instead of being "freed by Regan" and you successfully made Iran a US ally again! That's will most definitely help the region later in the 90s-20s! Good job!

In reading the book “Operation Eagle Claw 1980” by Justin Williamson I got this: “(If things went wrong)….F-4 Phantoms from (U.S.S) Coral Sea would provide cover for A-7 Corsairs from the Coral Sea as they bombed Iranian ports. A-6 Intruders would head for Desert One and then to what they assumed was a one way mission for Tehran. (If embassy assault failed and hostages executed)….they (the A-6s) and the AC-130 gunships….were going to destroy every target they could to avenge America”.

does popping off the canopy provide enough weight reduction in cap's case to justify the added drag? or did the cap just want an f/a-18c(onvertible) haha???

I had a cousin stationed on a carrier off the coast of Iran. He said that they had to paint out (our f14s) because Iran had and still have said f14s and that if things got really ugly in country that their carrier group had enough (nukes) to pretty much make Iran one big o'l diamond. I can't remember which carrier he was on but he worked the flight deck. Pilot's had to sign out the aircraft from him before taking off....
@Tinderchaff3 жыл бұрын
Having a very quick look on the Wiki page it looks like the only two carriers out there at the time were Nimitz and Coral Sea. This is also interesting... Protection for the operation was to be provided by Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8) operating from Nimitz and CVW-14 operating from USS Coral Sea. For this operation, the aircraft bore special invasion stripe identification on their right wings. This was necessary to distinguish support aircraft from Iranian F-14 and F-4 aircraft purchased by Iran from the US in the time of the Shah. CVW-14 Marine F-4Ns were marked with a red (VMFA-323) or yellow (VMFA-531) stripe enclosed by two black stripes while CVW-14 attack aircraft (A-7s and A-6s) had an orange stripe enclosed by two black stripes.[25][26] This photo of Tomcats on Nimitz at the time shows some of the markings en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_Air_Wing_Eight#/media/File:F-14A_VF-41_and_VF-84_Operation_Eagle_Claw-1980.JPEG I can't find any evidence of Tomcats flying from Coral Sea at the moment so it looks like it was the Nimitz, I hope all that helps :).

SUGGESTED MISSIONS: A.) The ambush of Adm. Yamamoto; B.) The Israeli strike on the Iranian(?) nuclear plant, and; C.) The opening “Shock and Awe” Air Assault of Baghdad during desert storm. (Include cruise missile drones approaching from the west, cruise missile strikes, F-117s, etc. I think there was also WW2 battleships firing main guns, B52 strikes, helicopter missions, and more!

If you're doing an all out attack it's hardly a reenactment of Eagle Claw. But please don't reenact it because it was disaster that took the lives of some brave servicemen. By the way, the operations took place about five months after the hostages were taken. They didn't just rush in willy-nilly without planning and preparation. Unfortunately the aviation units involved did not yet have the skills and equipment necessary for a high probability of success under adverse conditions. The failures experienced led to formation of various special operations units and capabilities, most notably the 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment, initially known as Task Force 160.
@WyvernFalken3 жыл бұрын
I remember this as part of my AFSOC training. The failure that was Operation Eagle Claw was what set the formation of SOCOM in motion. Glad it got established, but too little too late for what they needed then.

If the Grim Reapers were a PMC/Mercenary group, your treasury would be in the negatives considering whenever Cap decides to 'race back home' he burns all excess weight including the Canopy! And on that note Cap your ground crew would hate you.
