Grim! I got a question here, can you can how you did in the video in SAM mode or does it have to be STT? I would realize that in SAM you would have to slew the target to keep the radar locked

Oh yes def use SAM mode. I think it slews automatically?

Hey Cap, thank you very much for all your work on your videos. Can you make one about Cranking an AIM120c?

A question, why does the radar loose the target after 60 degrees? If I lock on to a target and do a 360 turn I loose him and have to start over. Is that how the f16 works or is it just now under the early build?
@0Ignition0

Is the maximum angle of the radar dish. All radars (most) have a maximum angle in azimuth and elevation, its a physical mechanism in front of the plane.

@@windowsxseven thanks, Im an idiot... haha, just that I thought other planes didmt loose track of a target that "easy"? But I just asking to learn. Not any good at this as you see 😁👍

@@AstroJR83 try it in an F18 and you will ask why the F16's radar is so much better in keeping the lock ;) I switched from 18 to 16 because I always lost the locks in the F18, so much that I gave up

This works great until you get a 27ET on you. Those things ignore everything chaff, flare, distance, cranking all of it does pretty much nothing against them.

Poor Mig-29 he had no chances against FOX3. Quite bad example coz of much lower efficiency and effectiveness of russian rockets. Against another AIM-120C that would be another story. SD-10 is good but not as good like AIM's.

I don't understand why you do a crank before launching the missile. A crank its done after you launched the missile to have maximum range keeping the target on radar and create more travel distance to enemy missiles.

@@grimreapers I watched it, I prefer to not do that, is really risky. When you turn for the shot you become very vulnerable. In the video you were lucky because the enemy didn't evade and was shooting fox 1 against fox 3. It may be useful for average AI.

By the time I launch my missile, I just assume they have already launched theirs but it’s not active yet so I go immediately offensive like in the video. If I crank after launch and then I get a missile warning by that time it’s usually too late.

I think its Right Alt + Space. You can also look up "wpn rel" in settings and you'll find the Weapon Release button which is what you use for launching missiles and bombs and other stuff

So if an AIM-120C range is 50+ nautical miles why do most of the engagements with it happen so close? I mean I get not launching at 50 miles, but why not 20 and force him to evade first?

DCS missiles do not behave like IRL missiles
@bazej1080
@bazej1080 4 жыл бұрын
AIM-120 in DCS can easily hit a target more than 40 miles away, high alt, non maneuvering, front aspect, shot from supersonic plane. But. If you are below 20,000-30,000ft the dense air reduce the range of the missile a lot. If you target is evading (i.e. cranking) the missile it reduce it's range a lot. If your target turn away and run it reduce the effective range of the missile by a huge margin. If you want to know practical range of i.e. AIM-7M read the Desert Storm pilot's relations, they were shooting from 10-15miles. And they had altitude advantage in most cases and supersonic jet before shoot... They nearly always saw the missile hitting enemy and the fireball or smaller explosion. The shoot was barely beyound visual range at best.

@mcflyingfury Жыл бұрын
If you shoot first and he evades first, then he is the first to reengage and take a shot at you when you are both closer to each other. Think about it this way. In most scenarios, you will both somehow defeat the first missile in any given BVR engagement. It's like a game of chicken. You want to fire your missile after his, so that he is defensive longer than you. That way you can defeat his missile first, turn around and fire again before he gets the chance to do so.
