I have a mod for this game that adds a gravel sifter, which eats gravel and finds minute amounts of useable ore. It’s not much, only about .01 percent of any ore per like 100 gravel, but every little bit helps, especially when you’re taxed for metals. Plus stone gives a good amount of iron, silicon, and nickel on its own, so it all adds up.

I think I've done that in a few series/games, but now I'm wondering which one you're thinking of. The first one that comes to my mind would be the Modded Minecraft series I did a few years ago, but not very many people saw that one.
