Tequila Jimmy and Gringa, first of all, I love the background on your reaction video. Secondly, Gringa, don't be embarrassed about shedding a tear to this acoustic version of "Puzzle". Even grizzled old men, like me, shed a tear at Saiki's beautiful, sad, heartfelt singing. It says something about a vocalist when they can cross language barriers, age, and even gender to make the listener feel and respond to what they are singing. Saiki is one of those vocalists.

Glad you mentioned the guitar tone. When I first this oh so long ago it was the first thing that hit me. This version is a punch in the gut feeling, not in a violent way but a feeling of loss and unrequited love. Never be worried about shedding a tear Gringa, I wish more reacters would let it out rather than holding it in. ❤ Jimmy, When you mentioned how they look on stage it showed your knowledge and understanding of Japanese culture. To me anyway.

As emotional as this song feels (And I do love it), the song that affects me the most of theirs is "About Us". During the lockdowns they were unable to be on stage for too long a time. The fans missed them, and they missed the fans right back. And one day out came "About Us". A love letter to their fans, that really showed that they cared deeply about them. And of course the song itself is amazing. It always has a place in my ever changing top 10 Band-Maid songs list.

I've been moved to tears by Band-Maid a few times over the years and bless them for having the ability to do that. They invest so much emotion and thought and hard work into all they do and it is reflected in their performances every time. After this rendition of PUZZLE, Kanami and Saiki then performed another song in the same duet style, ANEMONE, which always - and I've watched it a lot over the years - but always moves me to tears. For some unknown reason they removed it from their YT channel about 4 years ago and now it is only freely available on that Chinese site (though you can, like me, always buy the DVD!). The finale to their 10th Anniversary gig last November in Yokohama Arena is one that will have you crying - and all of us watching - but it's for joyous reasons as the song is ENDLESS STORY and, while the lyrics are beautiful and moving, it's the performances and the rawAF emotions pouring from every band member as they perform the 33rd song of the night and say goodbye that hits hardest. Then there's ABOUT US, the song they wrote for the fans in the middle of the plague years and which tells of how they miss live gigs and us and how they know we miss them too. They livestreamed a few gigs during those times and premiered it for us at one of them. Saiki gave the most moving speech before they performed it and when they played it, it was, for me, a moment of catharsis of all the pent up emotions I had from being cut off from friends and family for so long and losing 6 friends in 18 months. I sobbed but it was with relief; a real catharsis. I never listen to it now as the first few chords are enough to make me tear up but (if you need a good cry once in a while!) I'd recommend it very highly. And there's the wonderful and moving performance by Saiki, alone on the piano, performing CHOOSE ME at Yokohama Arena - kzbin.info/www/bejne/apy1iYeJj5ycq9Usi=l_pyC-WUISNdlTlk

I know you saw the live full band version a while ago, but it's worth seeing the lyrics again. They are some of Miku's best, and Saiki wrings every bit of emotion out of them. PUZZLE Your first "hello", The sound of a puzzle piece falling into place. I'm sure you don't recall, But that's fine with me You gave me a shelter, where your light Scatters the shadows of my despair. Keep your innocent smile, you said. Even if my love is not returned, Don't care what number I am! Aaah...those are just lies. Mustn't look, mustn't know, It'll only give me pain. But I long to know, Can't resist. Even if it is just for a moment. Eroding my defenses, You knew, one word, and I couldn't resist any more, Then embraced me. Step outside and we seem just strangers. Only me longing... Like sweet candy melting away, Someday you'll disappear too Leaving just your sly look, your smell. But that's fine with me On my own at night- Where are you? What are you doing? The more I think, the more I can't sleep. I shouldn't be selfish, But just wait patiently for you? The answer is clear. I can't do it! I can't say it! Really I know, Seizing my desire just can't be. Yet, as my fingertips touched you, I'm sure, I felt love. Don't think to apologize. Enchant me, I will look away. This incurable wound I crave, cuts deeper. I'm falling for you again. Lighters I don't use, Glasses in line, Even new clothes. Don't cry! All mementos of you. I just want to remain In this dream with no end. Will I ever wake up? Don't cry! Let me believe. Mustn't look, mustn't know, It'll only give me pain. But I long to know, I can't fight it, Even if it just this moment. Eroding my defenses, You knew, one word, and I couldn't resist any more, Then embraced me. Step outside, we seem just strangers. Leaving me longing... The puzzle is breaking, Memories aren't enough. I close my eyes and, again, Again, I'm falling for you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets teary-eyed when I hear this song. Even though Saiki keeps singing "don't cry" 😉 My sense from the lyrics is that the narrator knows she will never have this man for herself only, but she can't help herself. Honestly, Miku's lyrics, even in translation, make me cry too.

Don't worry about crying, La Gringa ... I cry when I hear this song, and I'm certain many others do, too. Only the hard-hearted would not feel the pain in Saiki's voice. The beauty of every Band-Maid song is revealed in acoustic performances. Another great reaction.

Another wonderful acoustic version of a BM song that gets my eyes a little damp is "Smile", specifically the Online Okyu-Ji Feb 11, 2021 version. It's on YT but it's not an official video. I think they did it on their Christmas acoustic show, too. Nemophila's "Life" does it to me too, but you have to turn on the subtitles to get it.

Nice reaction. Saiki does a fantastic job of expressing the emotions of unrequited love through her singing, much more so in the acoustic version, IMO. And Kanami's backup vocals help elevate those feelings. While I still prefer the live, non-acoustic version, both are great performances.

As long as you're doing the softer side of BAND-MAID, they did an entire set of acoustic stuff for the Christmas Show. The real stand out for me was a Miku song, 'Sayonakidori', which means Nightingale. It's well worth checking out. There is an Electric version, but the acoustic version is pretty special. And though it's cool to see Kanami sing back up for 'Puzzle', it's not nearly as rare as seeing Akane sing backups, which as far as I know, 'Sayonakidori' is the only song she sings backups in. And you get to see how far Miku has come as a guitarist.

The brilliance of Band Maid. To take a song like Puzzle, an absolute rocker and do a beautiful ballad that hits the soul, is just incredible. But they do this all the time. That is what makes them the best band, rock or otherwise, out there. Just a little aside. I think the original electric version is an angry Saiki blaming the dude for deceiving her. But the acoustic version seems like she is hurting and blaming herself for falling for his lies. Just saying.
