Grizzly 399 and her four cubs playing. She's probably the most famous bear in the world and I was privileged to be able to observe and record her families actions over about a week and a half that they spent near my home.

If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. I live off grid (as in no physical connection to public utilities) in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and love it! What will you find if you follow my channel and watch my videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. I split my own wood for heat, carry my water by hand, and attempt to grow as much of my own food as I can between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from my mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.

For a bit of my background, as a child, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend much of my free time exploring and playing in the woods. Little has changed now that I'm older I suppose. I moved to a place with a bigger woods and still enjoy spending my time outside gardening, hiking, exploring, and photographing the natural world around me. As the eldest of seven children who grew up in a homeschooling family, I had the opportunity, not always appreciated at the time, to learn to do quite a bit of work. I've enjoyed a wide range of jobs, everything from greenhouses and flower arranging to wilderness therapy with teens, to milking cows. Mostly, I enjoy doing the kinds of things that I think provide a real service or value to others. Some of my other hobbies include backpacking, hosting people, cooking, preserving food, anything to do with nutrition, reading, journalling, and sitting around a fire and talking to my close friends.

Thank you so much for posting your footage!!! Set to the 1812 Overture is fitting for this Queen Mama and her 4 beautiful babies. Last Fall, I remember asking you if you have seen her. Of course, you didnt know my intent beyond curiosity. I love it there and hope to return someday but COVID had other plans. Thank you for sharing this beautiful family!! I hope and pray she and her cubs have a great season this year!! I hope she wont be hounded this year. Unfortunately, She may have been 1 of the bears the lady in Jackson was feeding in late Fall.... Long live Queen 399!! She emerged with all 4 cubs this year and looks great from news reports I have seen!!

Mama 399 has a whole sleuth of grizzlies and she seems to have taught them how to forage as they all seem to be well rounded. When she was nursing, i bet it was a real tax on the old bear, but she seems to have them well in paw.

I always thought bears were mostly around in the spring and summer and hibernated in the wintertime. Like they literally slept through the entire winter.

They do through what would be the whole winter in most areas. Here though we have snow on the ground 8-9 months a year, so when they are up in the spring and fall, there's plenty of snow around.

She was here full time for a few weeks, then in and out of the yard for a bit, and now I haven't seen her in a while. She looked great when I last did, so I am going to assume she is happily munching willows somewhere else along a creek. She was well fed and eating great so she should be fine unless a bigger predator finds her.

it had never occurred to me before watching these scenes, but there must come a point in every bear momma's life when she has to move on to find adequate foraging grounds for just herself, especially when her cubs grow up so fast to compete for food supplies from such a prodigious brood of 4, chuckle. Nature is marvellous thankyou for sharing!
